  1. have done that, it shows on the config list where i want it to go, but it doesn't go there... guess we'll just set up a desktop shortcut pointing to the other locnations.
  2. ok think i have got 2018 sorted with the post/config. but now X8 wont to save the NC files in my chosen directory.... we don't want them in the std "c//doc/myx8/mill/nc", we want a different folder "c//doc/mcam nc". as we want both X8/2018 posts to store in the same place. the X8 config is set "mill nc programs = c//doc/mcam nc" but it wont go there... any suggestions?
  3. ok, they finally finished installing both versions, and i have gotten X8 back up and running. now focusing on 2018. what do i have to do to import the mach def and the post over to 2018? and will that affect the X8 version? any simple walk throughs i can follow?
  4. We have X8 installed, and finally we are getting 2018 installed on the same computer. Will there be any problems having both on there, not using at same time? Also just found out we we are getting a new computer, so should we install X8 then 2018 or it won't matter? If we have both on there, is there any thing we have to do, migrating files etc between them? Or just let each install on their own? Thanks
  5. does Design do solids as well or only surfaces? the brochures on the web are a bit vague. we do cores and cavity's, electrodes etc for plastic injection moulds, plus jig n fixtures for assembly.
  6. we use a single seat of Mastercam X8 with "Mill Level 3 and Solids" on 1 computer at work. they pay the yearly maintenance license, and have X9 still in box and awaiting our IT to install 2017. we only have 1 HAAS mill atm, but plans are afoot for another HAAS early next year. there are only 2 of us that use Mastercam/HAAS, and it gets crowded sometimes. the other bloke said that there used to be a standalone dwg/solid modeling package, does everything except tool paths, his thinking is that someone could be on the other computer, do all the prep, and only use the full version for tool paths. does this still exist with X8 and above, if so what is it called? just thought i'd ask here, then i know what i'm talking about when/if our rep ever gets back to me. thanks
  7. unsure if we had the opps default from X5 migrated over, our IT dept did all that upgrading. the post is the only thing i know of that was copied over error says "whatever cutter path" not found in your opperation defaults c/user/pub/doc/shared.mcx6/mill/ops/mill_mm.defaults.6 how do we fix? or is a re install required? thanks
  8. we have X6 mill level 3 and solids at work trying to machine an electrode at the moment and went to use high speed paths on the solid. when i click on toolpath it says that path is not in opps folder. (cannot remember the exact wording, at home atm) tried roughing and finishing paths, no joy dynamic dosent do anything either. am i missing something or doing it wrong? or is something missing with our install? i'm sure i have used them b4. we have had X3 thru to current X6 level 3 n solids. thanks
  9. we have recieved a lot of files (about 450) of our mould electrodes and cav details from one of our outside contractors who has closed shop. we need to access some of the solid models, but he used V7 and we have X6 here. i am only after the surfaces and solid models created, not the tool paths etc is there a converter program availble? or what is the earliest version of X that will open them? (we have back to X3, if we can find an old computer to run it as we upgraded to 64bit recently) thanks
  10. thanks guys, installed "InventorView 2013" and all is good with mastercam reading the file.
  11. running mc x6mu2 on one computer station and running autocad inventor lt 2013 on another station. both running win7x64. which add-on do i need to install on the mc station to be able to use the inventor solid? "Direct Conv. - Mastercam X6 Direct for Autodesk Inventor 64-bit" or "X6 Translator Update - Autodesk Inventor View 2013 x64" or anything else i need to do? thanks
  12. i purchased these for private learning use, directly from in-house, so i dont exactly have a dealer. guess i'll try in-house then? thanks
  13. last november i bought Mastercam Mill X4 Level 1 & 3 Training books from In-House Solutions, which came with the HLE dvd's. have had it installed at home and using it till 2 days ago when it stopped working. ok. i read somewhere that it is a six month demo, with 4 times install, giving 2 years usage. so i tried to reinstall, but get nothing. have tried repair, and modify, but still nothing. i have deleted all files/ folders and purged the registry, and started from scratch, but still no reinstall. whats going on? how do i get it to reinstall? thanks
  14. thanks Guru thats the spot. also added "Subprm-" to appear in the same line so that the opperators know what its for. you make it look so easy!
  15. hi, how can i add the main program name to the subprogram? so that when it gets imported into the haas it shows up as a named program so we know which program its for. we are using the generic haas mill x4 post. code: % O40001( D343 F THRD INSERT S ) ( DATE=10-03-10 TIME=14:35 ) ( T4 | 16MM END MILL CARBIDE INSERT | H4 | XY STOCK .2 | Z STOCK 0. ) N10 G21 N20 G0 G17 G40 G49 G80 G90 / / N7360 G91 G28 Z0. 16. i have been away from work sick the last 3 months and the boys in the shop have not updated our X4 yet. question is do i have to install MU1 before MU2, or can i go straight to MU2? thanks
  17. ok, i have disabled the 2 check boxes, put "" in all the other options, altered the post in the xcoolant section to have m8/m9-m51/m61 in the code. think i have it working ok now. is there a way 2 set it to 'after' automatically, so u just choose 'on' or leave it at 'ignore'? thanks again
  18. had a look at tony35's post, and a quick play, but can some1 explain what 'ignore, before, with, after' do? didnt make sense to us! did some funny things. placed the m51 in the correct position eventually, but couldn't get the m61/off in the right place or even in the post. didnt even know about X style coolant options! was just used to the 'flood on/off, mist, thru tool' placing it correctly was hoping it was going to b as simple as the 'flood m8/m9' option is, but with air m51/61. mayb its just me! need to have a longer play i think. thanks
  19. we have an external air blast valve on our haas tm1 and control it by user relays M51/M61. we would like to able to set it in the drop down box on the tool coolant parm page, so we have 'flood' on/off(M8/M9) and change the 'mist'(?) option to 'air' and have it insert the correct code for on/off(M51/M61) in the post. is this possible? if so, how do i change the generic haas 4X mill post and change mastercam parm to insert the codes in the correct positions in the post output so that it turns on (@ retract height), an off b4 tool changing (like the M8/M9 does now)? example quote: % O0( TEST ) ( DATE=24-08-09 TIME=16:55 ) ( T2 | 10. M30 % i am a fairly new user, so a walk though how on what an where to change would be helpful. we are using X3 at the moment, but upgrading to X4 before the end of the year. at the moment we are hand editing for the tools we want to have the air blast on. thanks all
  20. long time reader, 1st time poster, so here goes... i'm looking for advice on which books would suit us better. we have x3/x4 mill 3/solids at work since the begining of the year, and a basic knowledge of how to use it. haha only 3 axis stuff is needed. what is the difference between the these books.. Mastercam Beginner Training Tutorial or Mastercam Mill Level 1 Professional Courseware in either x3 or x4? (would also get the 2nd book of each aswell) or do they overlap each other in what they teach? do they come in a metric version for us overseas people? would also be interested in the solids and design books. thanks all
