  1. Hardware lock on each machine. Our server has lots of hard disk space. He is thinking a network problem also. When we post locally we are still using the network for our post and tool library files. We have one user who has a lot more trouble than others. Fairly new to Master Cam so he make mistakes, fixes them and re generates toolbaths quite a bit, but other than that he's not doing anything wrong or different. It happens to everyone but this guy a lot more often. The plot thickens. RJT
  2. Posts, tool libraries, MC8 files, are all on a dedicated network small business server. I think a better descition is the application hangs. I can minimize, re open mastercam in a new window and do anything I want to while the original application is hung, so the computer is not really locked up as my original description indicated. RJT
  3. First post, just joined. I searched for "lockup " and found a few threads, but nothing regarding lockup when posting. We have 5 seats of mastercam, version 8.1.1 for milling, 8.0 (i think) for wire EDM and 9 for turning. 3 different workstations. 1 running xp pro, 1 windows 2000, 1 NT. the xp machine locks up most frequently followed close second by 2000, and the NT machine has never locked up. NT used mainly for 2 wire EDM's that are hooked up directly to the PC com ports. For milliong and turning all 3 machines go through the network to a "slave" pc on the shop floor that acts as a drip feed or file server only. The problem gets worse as the day goes on, starts slowing down during posting (saved at the file server PC or locally doesn't matter) Eventually locks up with the hourglass and you lose any unsaved work. I've had my hardware guru in and could demonstrate it to him. He has tweaked a few thing (anti virus Avast) this afternoon, but not real hopeful. Does it only when posting, not running toolpathes, or verify. The NT machine doesn't get used that much for milling or turnig, so I don't know if that should even figure into the equation. Newest machine is about 2 years old. This started about a year ago and is getting more frequent. Re booting the machines helps for a while, but should we have to re boot twice a day? I've rambled on long enough. I won't be much help with specifice hardware for the PC's. I'm a toolmaker , not a computer harware guy. RJT
