  1. Hi,

if you have a boss part you need every time a tool center boundary. It is not possible to get a pocket toolpath without it. Only if you have not boss part and a close contour you can use pocket without tool center boundary.

  2. Hi,

this is the normal effect from the actual scallop toolpath calculation. We are working with CNC Software on a new technology. This will be in v8.1 - may be not in the rel. version, but very soon with an apps. The new technology do not jump between the "collaps" areas.

  3. Hi,

and in v8.1 you will also get a Rest material machining in Lathe. The geometry will automaticly calculate and you can use it as prev. geometry for additional toolpaths. Thei terminates a lot of "air" cuts. Sample: you have an inside shape. First you drill a hole. In the actual version you have to grate geometry for the ID operations. This is not nessesary in v8.1 (will come soon).

  4. Hi,

CATread supports in the normal case only 3D geometry. Drawings are not supported. Here is a list of the entities we can read.

    Entities Supported by CATREAD.DLL

The following three-dimensional entities (defined in the 3D modeling world) are

referred to as SPACE (SP) entities. Two-dimensional entities (defined in the

drafting and detailing world)referred to as DRAW (DR) entities and are not currently supported by CATREAD.DLL. A complete list of entities supported follows.

    Space entities supported

    Point (Type: 1)

    Line (Type: 2)

    Parametric Curve (Type: 3)

    Plane (Type: 4)

    Parametric Surface (Type: 5)

    Face (Type: 6)

    Edge (Type: 12)

    Volume (Type: 7)

    Transformation (Type: 9)

    Ditto (Type: 28)

    Conics (Types: 20,21,22,23)

    Composite Curve (Type: 24)

Solids - Mockup (Type: 17, secondary type: 1)

Solids - Exact (Type: 17, secondary type: 2)

    Polyhedral Surface (Type: 16)

    Model Specific entities supported

    Color Tables

    Master Workspace

    Details(SP & DR)

    Geometric Set

    Unsupported entities

!!!!! Drafting Entities will not be supported !!!!!!

If an entity does not appear in the above tables, it is not currently supported.

  5. Hi,

because MechanicalDesktop is a add on on Acad it use not the same database.

You have to write just the SAT Solids out. Not more. Here is also a statement from CNC Software about sending file from Acad to Mastercam. Try it in v8. Mastercam do a lot of imporvements in v8 for SAT.

The Info is for DWG, but the main process ist the same for SAT.:

Several users and dealers have inquired about issues importing Autodesk Mechanical Desktop files into Mastercam. The most common issue is, “There are no entities in the converted file”. The cause for this has to do with the structure of the DWG file coming from Mechanical Desktop. In Mechanical Desktop, different levels of “intelligence” are stored in structures called Nested Blocks. It is similar to stacking blocks on top of each other, the next level always building on the first, so that when completed a Mechanical Desktop file with Assembly information will have 3 levels of nested blocks. The lowest level is the wireframe geometry. The second level of information is any ACIS information. These two levels would make up any solid created with AutoCAD 2000, the next level is specific to Mechanical Desktop. The third level of nested block would be the parametric data added by Mechanical Desktop. Mastercam can only read DWG files with the first two levels of information. To import files successfully, the parametric layer must be stripped out of the Mechanical Desktop file. A tool within AutoCAD called “explode” allows the user to strip the nested block layers, one at a time. Therefore, the user must “explode” the Mechanical Desktop entities once and then save the file. This saved file can then be read into Mastercam properly. Exploding the file more than once will result in the saved file containing only wireframe data and the solid data will be lost. Exploding the entities as described will result in the parametric data being eliminated, including any assembly information. Therefore, a backup of the file should be saved first before exploding.

  6. Hi,

I think actual is one forum OK. When you split up the forum in many pices it takes more time to check all forums. Perhaps it is better to extend the topic line and the view methode.

When you put in the Topic the Function: This is a Topic for: 1) Design 2) Mill 3)...

it shows for that it is. Now you can insert the view for topics:

example: show all new topics from the last 5 days who are mark for Mill.

And if you want to see all you can select : show all topics.

    Good idea?

  7. Hi,

which wersion of APPS do you use. The latest one for v7.2 was appmch72.dll Version 80_34, dated thru 04/24/00. CNC instert there some bug fixes for Leftover. And in v8 it is much better.

  8. Hi,

Wire Version 8.1 will have a lot of improvements and changes. We are testing actual the Beta version. We also spend a lot of time in developing the post. Actual we do a post optimizing with my dealer Unicam for Agie controlls - this is done. The next step is Charmilles. We are working very close with the Agie/Charmilles/Bostomatic goup here in germany.

The post department is working hard to take functions from the controll in the software/post. If you can wait some weeks I'm sure the new wire will help you and bring us back to the wire edm market.

  9. Hi,

in v8.1 it will be in. Here is a item form the v8.1 list:

Verification using an input file as the initial stock - any file with trianlges, solids or surfaces (IGES, X_T, MC8, STL, etc)

Verification can now save the result of a session to an STL file

It will take some time til v8.1 is done.
