  2. Hello Hans

I teach at a small high school and I share the same concerns that you do with the software. I agree with the new file extenstion-it sucks. We have had NUMEROUS problems with the software and setting up hasps, liitations on some and not others, incorrect codes, hasps timing out when they are not supposed to, etc, etc, etc. I know that we don't count much in the big picture of industry in regards to profit but it would be nice to be able to teach a class full of students without the problmes mentioned above cropping up in he middle of the class, I would absoultely love to have cnc software come into the shop and deal with the problems that crop up due to security concerns.

  3. Hello I teach at a small k-12 school and we are trying to make some very simple wooden gears for one of our shop projects. my problem is that I know NOTHING about the field definitions and terms that mastercam x requests in the c-hook. Does anyone know of a site that GREATLY simplifies these terms or aids in the desiggn of simple gears. ANY help would be greatly appreciated by myself and the students.

    Thankyou very much in advance

  4. Hey Sharon

I had this once but have misplaced it. it was just a bunch of layers if I remember right with drawing limnits laid out in each layer. If you wish to send it to me I can see if I can open it up. where are you teaching? I am in McCreary Manitoba.

  6. Thanks Bullines

I will try them. Also if you don't mind is there a way to select the orgin when creating an entity. Example arc-center point. In 9 I could click on the word orgin and it would be placed there. The only way I could seewas to manualy type in the cordinates or press the f9 key and click on it. Probably a simple step in front of my nose.

    Thanks

  7. We use a shopbot 4 x 8 router at the school where I teach and we have been extremely happy with it. for a hobbiest I think it would be ideal. We paid 13000.00 Canadian 4 yrs ago and have nothing but good luck with it. granted it won't compete with a 100,000.00 machine but it will do some impressive stuff. Check it out at shopbottools.com and let me know what you think. I'm just waiting for some replies on this one.

  8. Hello

We are applying for a grant to purchase additional seats of Mastercam Router and Art. Part of the grant asks for consultation with industry on our requests. would any post secondary instructors or anybody in the manufacturing field mind giving me a few paragraphs of what they would wish or expect high school grads to know when coming into the industry regarding cnc. I am looking for specific skills-example drawing in 2-3d, setting up the router for cutting, nesting, etc. smile.gif Your response may become part of my grant application and will definitely help out.

    Thanks for any help offered

  9. Hello all and thanks for the replies

The cold is crazy here. minus 40 celcius with a wind to boot. Tomorrow they are calling for up to plus 2 and freezng rain-nuts. Steve the ski hill is in the courts. Owners of trhe assisipi ski hill in Rssel bought out 51% of the creditors so they have us by the short ones.

Anyone using mastercm art out there?

  10. Hell

We are presently looking at purchasing mastercam(we have been on a lease program) and I am confused about the maintance agreement. If one does not sign up for it are you still entitled to download patches to fix up the "bugs" in the program. If not it seems like we will be stuck with them for quite awhile as our school definitely cannot afford a new version ever couple of years. Thanks

  11. Hello

Does anyone know of a work-around for importing eps files with Mastercam Draft. My students have access to eps clipart but Draft will not directly convert them. I was hoping someone had developed a c-hook or something. Any help would be appreiated.

    Thanks

  12. Hello

After trying to export a dwg from Corel 10 into Mastercam I get this error when trying to do a pocket toolpath. "Warning "The boundry does not lie in the construction plane". Basicaly it is a simple 2d sign with a pic and some writing. I am selecting the letters with a window and then running into this problem. Could somebody please explain in "novice terms" what this means.

    Thanks

  13. Hello

Lst year I had my grade eights do a design on a clock face which went okay. Other projects we have done are intarsia (pretty nice, various boxes, etc. My grade 11 and 12 have to design a project of their choice on mastercam, make a cutting plan for the materials and then cut out the plywood or soldi stock on the cnc router (shopbot). We have had some realy nioce sutff from stereo cabinets to hope chests to an electric guitar body. One kid made a huge bridge for his backyard using 2 by 4's. He used the router for half lap joints, etc. worked well. They have about 90 hours in the shop total. its a little nerve wracking with the price of materials but it generally works out. we use a lot of Wheat strawboard which is cheap and nice to cut. very dust though so you have to have a good dust collection system going. Mastrcam developed a tmplate for a cnc car for younger kids. I used it with a couple but we never did cut it out as our machine was too small then. I generally find that the hardest part is helping the kids with the machine while trying to watch the other students do something else. I have a couple of older students take a additional course on cnc with me on their spares and then I use them as resourses whenever possible. That makes a huge difference. Let me know if I can help.
