  1. Nevermind. That only works for opening from the exe. If I open another existing file from the server, it opens on the first. I will check out the control panel to see if I can get it working.

By the way what card is better?

This Radeon 6800 or the Firepro V7800? I believe one is a gaming card and the other is a workstation.

the Firepro for sure, google them, i have a 6800 at home not a bad card tho

  2. update,

i was working on a different old file this week updating some of the toolpaths to better methods, and was having graphics issues with points and face selection, i checked out the groups and it had the same deal with all the groups looking like that picture,  it did say different things, but it did have "+++++++" all over the place, so i deleted them all,  after that it was trouble free :)

after deleting them,  probably had the file open for a collective 10hours or so and didnt have anymore selection issues

  3. post-40004-0-76883200-1406741268_thumb.png gonna throw this out there, i noticed something strange this morning, in the pic you see that there are groups named , i dont use this function, and i went thru a few files that i remember that were troublesome and they all have named groups that i didn't create, so i'm gonna delete them and then see if the problem comes back or not
  4. The best way to temporarily ignore the solid snap points is to get in the habit of using the "Quick Masks" toolbar.

The QuickMasks toolbar gives you access to the "All" and "Only" functionality on the General Selection toolbar. These buttons are awesome for quickly filtering out what you want or don't want to select.

For example: if your solid is getting in the way, and you only want to be able to select points from your wireframe geometry, then just "right-click" on the "Wireframe" quickmask button. This puts you in a "wireframe only" mode. So now when you pass your cursor over the geometry on the screen, it completely ignores your solid geometry. But, (and this is the cool part), if the solid is still visible on the screen, it will serve to hide all of the wireframe geometry that is "behind" the solid.

When you use the QuickMask buttons, there is different functionality if you "Left click" vs. "Right click".

Left-Clicking a button selects "All" of that type of geometry. So Left-Clicking on "Arcs" quickmask would select "All Arcs". If you "Right-Click" on the "Arcs" quickmask, it would put you in the "Only Arcs" selection mode. This means that as you pass your cursor over the screen, all entities would be disabled except for the arcs.

i never knew about the right clicking thats awesome stuff!!!

  5. thanks for the tip dude!, i dont think i tried that one, i tried ram saver too, but definitely going to give regen display list a shot,(fingers crossed) LOL ,, Im going to start working on said part again tomorrow so hopefully it works like a champ for me too!!

  6. no kidding had the exact problem

ive had the problem pop up a couple times on this particular solid i was programming about 2 weeks ago and it was frustrating the heck out of me!, I've since not completed the program for it because of other priorities, but i couldn't figure it out,  i haven't had a single problem with mc doing that since i haven't been working on that part,

now the only thing thats really different for what ive been programming since, is that model has two areas that get splined and they're drawn on the model.
we make a line of tools that are a scaled up/down in size and the one part we call the housing no matter what size will typically give me issues to some degree, such as optirest making some odd moves when the step over is set below a certain figure and the point selection issue, i have had some other ones that i cant think of right now

i always thought i had something to do with an ati graphics card (got em at work and home), since i've read so many posts about the random nature of ati and how nvidia is the trouble free card to use

im definitely going to send that file in to qc monday, also referencing this post,  ive been busy as poop lately getting programs, setting up and maintenance

hopefully we can get it figured out because its annoying and unproductive having to restart my computer to be able to pick a solid point

  7. dang! cjep that reminds me of a place i worked at as a setup operator, and there was this small open bed style mill in the shop that always had tons of oil dry all around the front and i finally figured out why, it was because the day guy would chew cut tobacco and spit it in the oil dry!! NASTY!!

but our ethic on the keeping the machines area clean is this, if anybody has time to bs talk or play with the cell phone they have time to clean up, this includes all employees, we bring current and potential customers in the shop so its gotta look impressive

same thing goes with inside the machine, i put valves (its not that hard to do and its relatively inexpensive)on all the machines flood coolant pumps so they can shut the flood off to the spindle and hose the inside off, and be sure to caution operators not to use air guns or you'll end up with chips jammed in places they shouldn't be or piled up under the waycovers

  8. Chris heres what you gotta do, right click in the blank toolbar space, post-40004-0-56476300-1405461612_thumb.png the areas that you can do this are the light blue color on my screen,  it will not open that window up if you are not in a blank toolbar space area, after you do,  click on shading, then this post-40004-0-42830900-1405461833_thumb.png will pop up somewhere on the screen,  the 3 circled are the ones that control the look of the wireframe display on solids

and fyi, you could also drag that shading toolbar into a blank space area and you can also save it so you always have it there if you wish

  9.

not sure how it found an X6 folder that i or he has never used before in X7.

im pretty sure ive experienced this as well (cant exactly remember the last time it happened), i figured it was because the the file i was working on or had been working on was from an x6 version

  10. i think its always posted like that, there are no options for rapid plunge on the threadmill page, i just change the feed rate on the plunge field

  11. with x7mu2 , ive had that happen with dynamic transform, and sometimes stuff dosent hide after i select entities to keep on the screen, it dont know why, i wont duplicate on the other programmers computer when he opens it,and hes had that happen on his as well but it wont duplicate when i open his ,

it happens on such a rare occasion, i dont spend hours to investigate why, i just work around it and move on

but you could try using the repaint screen(found under view), regenerate display list(found under screen) or the ram saver (under settings), those might work instead of reloading,

usually one of those three fixes it for that session and until i save\close\open it up again i dont have anymore problems

  12. i definitely agree guys , i've used that technique before but on this job the cycle time was more a concern than maximum tool life, there is a wire edm and fab welding op after this one and they take forever and a year to complete and at the time the customer needed them yesterday

jeff 1000spm is pretty quick for 4000 anneled steels but this cutter r217.69-01.50-16RE-12-5AN and insert XOMX 120408TR-M12 mp3000 takes it like a beast on dynamic paths.

at the above parameters on the width of cut but the depth i've had up to .36, after that the machine cant take the vibration and we start getting random failures, also having a good supply of thru spindle air is key, even using about 600psi thru spindle coolant drastically reduced tool life and reliability.

next time we run another job we use this cutter on ill get more video/data to share.

  13. so this is one of the many parts we make out of 4340 or 4140 steel, this part is from 2" 4140 annealed plate and it was also flame cut to a 8" x 10" dim

the cool part is that im removing 7.56cu in\min

the machine is a 2011 doosan dhp 4000

i'm securing that part with a .100x60deg dovetail

the cutter is a seco 1 1/2 dia super turbo 5flute with a m16 combimaster head and a combimaster holder adapter

the weldon version works equally as well

the inserts are the m12 edge .03 corner and mp3000 grade

    using thru tool air

ap .32 ae.375 sfm 1000 ipt .005 , the insert edge life is about 45min usually we can easily get double that, but with that flame cut its just wearing them out quicker

  14. i agree with foghorn, you have to create and use a point geometry to have reliable wcs association, using the other methods such as solid face, wire frame, etc will not always maintain the wcs location if you move it

i create two lines then create a point at the intersection, use the wcs by geometry to set the axis, and go back and pick the point created as the associative geometry using the hotkey "p" so it will only pick the point and not autocursor an endpoint of the line

  15. +1 on customization of the op manager toolbar, i would definitely like to add some extra separators between those buttons

and it would be real cool to select regen between the current group, machine group or the whole deal with different icons :guitar:

it usually bites me when im rushing to get something out to the machine, and it definitely sucks

when editing long regen paths what ive started doing is lock the other groups so they cannot regen that way your not waiting, you just get a message that says they're locked and wont regen
