  2. Thanks for the response, but unfortunately I have no idea on where to insert this command. If you could please help me out a bit more it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the time.
  3. Hey guys, So far I've been using the generic 3 axis VMC post provided and the only problem I have is with the thread output. I need the post to output TPI with an E in front (E32.)instead of IPM. Thanks for all the support guys. BTW, I don't have much experience in post editing with Mastercam and most likely a detailed explanation would be helpful. Have a great weekend!
  4. ...Doohh!!! That did it, thanks a bunch!
  5. I've tried several times to get the generic 3 axis post to output and stage the next tool in the nc code and give up. The generic code works fine except for tool staging and changing the F to an E on the tapping cycle. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. Thanks gcode, it worked out great!
  7. Thanks G, but unfortunately I don't quite understand what you mean by projecting the the cut onto a round surface. The most I've done with projecting is engraving onto a cylinder. If it's not too much trouble would you mind going into a little bit more detail on how I might achieve this. Oh yeah, multiaxis isn't an option for me. Thanks again guys.
  8. Hey guys, Here I am again asking for help. For the most part I'm catching on fairly well but the one thing I've never really done is 3D work. I've been playing around with several different parts but with no success, only frustrations. I've attached a image of a part I'm doing on my 5 axis mill/turn and I've been trying to do some so called "simple 3D work". Please keep in mind that I really have no experience with surfacing and some detailed help would be appreciated. Also, if someone could suggest a way to learn surfacing I would be very interested in knowing how. In this image I'm wrap contouring the entire cylinder and leaving material around the boss. I would like to use MCX to finish the vertical walls and blend the internal radius to the floor of the cylinder, if that makes sense. Once I figure that out I plan on incorporating NC code from MCX and merging it with my Esprit file (no 3D for Esprit:.... ). Not the most ideal way but up into this point we haven't found a need for it on our multi-axis lathes. Most of our work with the mill/turns has been indexing type of stuff. I'm hoping with me learning Mastercam I'll have the best of both worlds. Thanks again for the help and your time is appreciated. I'll keep on searching through the forum to see if I could find related topics.
  9. Thanks for the replies guys. Unfortunately I don't have any of the Dynamic options available to me in X3, I have core and area mill available to me. I did have a chance to play with X5 a bit at my friends shop and it seems as though it's quite an upgrade from X3. I played around with dynamic core a bit and I really liked the tool path. One thing I didn't like was all the extra geometry I had to draw up in order for the operation to recognize the boundaries, at least from what I shown. Thanks again for the help. I just need to play around with things a bit and experiment with the different features. Oh yeah, does anyone ever have any problems with verification blending issues? On one feature I was using two tools blending to a linear cut and verify showed a pronounced step. I initially thought it was a mistake on my part but after verifying the numbers all was okay. Just seemed a little weird. Edit: I found the answer to my own quesiton in the configuration> verification settings> tool tolerances. I changed it .001 and all is fine now, thanks.
  10. When doing a rough contour feature is there a way to minimize air cuts? In Surfcam they have an option of selecting both the part and material which minimizes the additional air cuts. Here's a .png file of both the part and material outlined. Sorry for the lame questions but I'm trying to self learn Mastercam to get one of seats updated to X5.
  11. Got It!!!!! You guys are awesome!!!! I now have 3 different options a few hours later....amazing. Thanks again guys for the support.
  12. This ended up working out for me. Thanks!
  13. I tried this method a few times and I can't seem to get it right.... . This is my 1st week working with Mastercam and for the most part things have been somewhat straight forward, at least in 2D. The part I seem to be having troubles with is sliding the arrow onto the surface. I'm just not quite sure exactly what I should be doing. Thanks again for the response.
  14. This method seems to work just fine, thank you. Like you mentioned, it isn't the quickest way but it gets the job done. Hopefully someone will chime in with a quicker method since I have a large variation of slots. Unfortunately we don't have any prints to go along with the solids but on the other hand we were given a wide open general tolerance directly off the model. Tried this already and didn't have any luck. It seems to pickup varying arcs segments along the spline.
  15. Hi Guys, I'm a total newbie with Mastercam and have a question. I've been using Esprit for the past few years for our multi axis lathes and things are much different. I'm trying figure out the radius size on on a slotted feature (spline) going from the od through to the ID. I've tried a few things but with no success. Hopefully there is a quick and easy way to to do this, we have a large family of parts with identical features. Thank you in advance!
