  1. Hey Cjep, that was the culprit! Thank you again
  2. thank you, i will look into that. sorry i got a little busy. thanks again
  3. Hi guys, i had a question for the masses. Mastercam by default, to my knowledge, always uses "initial stock size" under the default verify settings. Im using X6 and this has always been the case. But as of a month ago, when hitting the verify button..it has started to default to "use last size". Is there a way to change this? Is it related to the machine definition? i havent changed anything, and if its a bug, its a minor one to me, but i would like to fix it if i can. Any help would be appriciated. Thank you in advance
  4. hi millman, it is actually a mastercam7 training book from in house solutions. yeah i agree the milling works just fine, and i would and could choose that, it was just the book said one thing so i was beating myself up trying to figure out why it wouldnt work. thanks again for the help
  5. ***EDIT*** i can successfully mill those holes, but the tutorial book says to drill them using cross drilling, im just wondering if im not choosing the right options.
  6. HI, thanks for the input. however im confused. im following tutorial #8 in the book and it says to choose those options. The cross drill should take that. Is it because my post cannot handle that? Sorry if im not getting it
  7. Hey guys, i am learning to program on our Haas Lathe with live tooling. When drilling a set of holes, as shown in the screen capture, my drill is not coming in on a perpendicuar path to the holes. The drill is tilted at an angle and im not sure exactly why?Basically the drill is not drilling straight. Any suggestions would be most appriciated. i know that cross drill is used for holes that are above or below the center line so it cant be that im using the wrong toolpath. thanks again!
  8. an edit.....i did search this topic and the only viable solution given was to makes "toolpaths" and ghost them..in essence simulate a clearance cut. Was hoping for a better answer but i can do that in a pinch.
  9. Hi guys, im hoping the masses can answer i question for me. I am fairly new to live tooling on our haas lathe. I have done the tutorials and have made a few sample parts. Now, however i have run into an issue that i cant seem to figure out. Basically i am using regular lathe toolpaths to whittle a part down. Then i am using a bullmill c-axis face contour to hog out a porton of the stock. Just envision making a cup. Then i am trying to go back to a regular lathe finish toolpath using a grooving tool. Now the issue i am having is that my toolpaths for the live tooling does not update my stock, so when i go to my grooving tool (knowing that the material is hogged out), mastercam is still treating the stock like it hasnt been hogged out. you know how you can move the red arrow throughout your toolpaths and your stock will update depending on what toolpath you are after? Well has anyone had any issues with the live tooling when switching from c-axis back to regular axis? Im using mastercam X6, and a Haas ST-20 Y post. Any help would be appriciated, thank you so much.
  10. thanks guys for the responses. Just as i figured, but the boss is a bit hard headed. Thanks again
  11. Hi all, i had a question that maybe someone could answer. My company recently purchased a Haas Lathe with live tooling. I have messed around with it a bit but i have not sent out any programs yet. Now i was told by the installer and by mastercam support that i would need a "new" post for the lathe, i could not use the "generic" post because it would not support the live tooling function. I personally do not care wich post that i use, but mastercam is charging us $xxxx for the post. My boss is ok with that but he wanted me to look around for another vendor for price comparisons. So finally to my question..anybody have any ideas as to where else i could look? Seems to me its a mastercam post, so mastercam is where we get it from but my boss insists that someone else should be selling these post..any help would be appriciated, thank you in advance!
  12. Hey guys, thanks for all of the responses. I have been messing with it and have found one basic sample part on Grabcad that actually included toolpaths too..go figure. It is not as complicated as i thought it would be, but it does have a lot of room for learning. i appriciate all of the advice. Thanks
  13. Hey Allan, it is a Haas ST 20y. i really have no idea as to how far up the chain that machine is, from mastercams point of view it all looks the same. I have figured a few things out but it is still just an experiment until i actually run things. i dont even know what machine definition to choose..haha
  14. HI guys, i have a question. I have been programming using mastercam for about 15 years now and although ive mainly been doing 3 axis with some 5 axis thrown in we hardly ever use the lathe portion of mastercam. I can program your basic lathe parts and what not..roughing, finishing, grooving, etc..but now the boss went and got himself a real Lathe with live tooling. So my delimma is this..i know its not rocket science and it shouldnt be too hard to pick up, but how much different is incorporating live tooling into a general lathe program? Does it require a new post? does it require manipulation of the axis or WCS? Ive scoured the internet and cant really come up with a "lathe with live tooling for dummies" type of reading. Any help would be appriciated. I will learn by doing it, but it would be nice to have a starting point. On a side note, i dont think the boss with spring for training, he always just tells me to go to the forums..haha. Thanks again
