  1. Thank you for the replies JParis, Paul. I must admit I was looking for a very quick way to zero in on the post line that was creating the line of code. I am looking for the pxxx that inserts the A0. I don't have a lot of time to play right now. :) Next week, I hope more.

I did run the debug utility, but since the post run fine without any errors, I didn't see what I was looking for.

  2. Previous to moving their manufacturing to china, and then back to the USA, I would agree 100%. They were more rigid machines, made right here in Minnesota and ran Fanuc controls. Much easier to work with for most people and were so much more accurate and repeatable than Thermwood. The Thermwood SuperControl is easy enough, but still required new training due to the proprietary nature of the system and they weren't nearly as rigid and accurate, nor could they hold tight tolerances very well. With the advent of the Model 90 and the Super 90, Thermwood resolved the rigidity, accuracy and tolerance issues greatly so the gap was negated. The fact that they never left America puts them ahead of KOMO now, IMO.

Jay, 'starry69' said it best. I wasn't aware that Komo moved their manufacturing over to China; I've been out of this world since 2006. However, our two Komo's at Applied where workhorses and produced a lot of good hardware. The two Thermwoods we had were just terrible, along with the attitude and non-support from Thermwood.

  3. (Note to JParis - I started a new thread so as to focus on X7)

Can anyone point me to documentation for to customize this setup sheet utility? I've read through all the older posts and cannot find an answer.

I need to set the default path for the template file (default_xss.css) to point to a file on our network drive.

Where in MasterCam can I access the data in the drop down menu fields? I would like to add custom fields i.e. programmer, part number, part revision, additional comments.

  4. I had great success with PDMWorks both Workgroup and Enterprise (Conisio) Versions for managing the data.

I would link both the MCX and the NC files to the SolidWorks model.

    Both had separate version control.

Establishing a file naming convention that makes sense is half the battle.

We are not using the MasterCam / SolidWorks link so as not to tie up an active SolidWorks licence for 'non-design' work. We use the Windchill PDM to control SolidWorks CAD and it does a great job. We bypassed PDMWorks because it only handles SolidWorks CAD while Windchill will manage Pro/E, Catia, Unigraphics, Mentor Graphics, SolidWorks etc.

We will be using Windchill to manage both the MasterCam source and output (.nc) files, but they will be stored as 'flat' document files. A bit more cumbersome and not as slick as the CAD file handling. However, the storage scheme will satisfy basic AS9100 7.5.1.3 requirements for configuration control.

  5. I clicked on "Use default Data paths" in the System Configuration and all the Data paths now reflect my network location. :) I'll test and document for the next user I setup.

Steve & I were looking at South Carolina - I had an opportunity open up at Boeing in North Charleston. I was offered a PDM developer position at Space X but not too crazy about living in Hawthorne. Northern Nevada is nice - are you near Reno? I would love to live in Tahoe if I could telecommute.

  6. I opened up the mcamx.config file in wordpad, as it is a text file. I'm tempted to replace "<APP_DIR_USER>" with my network path. Cut n' paste. I really don't want to make the updates via the dialog box - too time consuming.

Both my two 'kids' are still here in Tucson; it's nice to have them close. Steve died last October and I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life. :)

  7. Can you direct import SolidWorks 2010 to MC X7? I'm sure I tested it on the MC X6 demo. I'm getting a "Cannot find Parasolid data in SolidWorks file" error.

We plan to upgrade to SolidWorks 2011 soon; we are in the process of updating and testing our visualization adapters before we can proceed. In order to upgrade to SolidWorks 2012 or 2013 we need to Windchill 10.1.

  8. I found how to change the location for the machine / control files, but not set a global path for everything. I'll need to setup a network location for the posts and all too. So much to relearn.

Tucson is about the same. A lot of changes for me the last several years.

  9. Good morning boys and girls!

I have our brand new MasterCam loaded on my workstation - yoo hoo. I'm looking at the infrastructure and how to setup the user working directory's on the network.

Is there utility to move all the file paths to a common directory? Right now it looks like moving each path one at a time. Doable but a lot of time!

Anyone use the Project Manager? It looks like what I want, but it's per each file not a global setup.

If there was only a workgroup manager for MasterCam (PTC Windchill) I would be all set. :)

  10. They use E2 here and we spend more time working around the system than using it. It is not ERP or MPR - it's strictly a job shop floor control. I looked at JobBOSS several years back and liked it. We use PTC Windchill as our CAD PDM system. On of my tasks this Fall is to see about implementing the 'parts' Product Structure module. That way we can build the mBOM correlating to the as designed eBOM (from the CAD models).
