gcode is good, but i still get errors after i post. these do not seem system critical, just annoying.

    suggestions?

  2. This .pdf will help you get your X6 up and running.

This handles most straight forward installations. If you're doing something different, there may be some other things you will want or need to do.

There's been some issue of what appears to be people updating their X5 config IN the X5 folder. This "may" help

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar.

flawless transition. thank you for the guide!

  3. Drafting3 almost the same rig. I need to move to the 32gig Vengeance Quad memory from the 32 gigs of the dual channel Vengeance 1600mhz memory..

yeah, i've been stalking you for some time.

now that we have the same computer, i feel so much closer to you. :secret:

DON'T YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY!?!?!?!

    lol j/k ;)

I'm sure you chose your components for the same reason I did.

Asus Sabertooth X79, 5-year Warranty, Military Grade, Great cooling features.

i7-3820 - Going to the 3930 was double the cost, and while gaining two more cores, each core drops by .4ghz. i just couldn't justify it.

Vengeance Ram - looks cool, big heat sinks, oh... and lifetime warranty ;)

h100 cooler - 5 year warranty closed system cooler

I actually chose the X79 chipset specifically for the quad channel memory. You should totally upgrade. Maybe return the package within 30 days with the old dual channel memory in the box? lol :innocent:

I may play around with overclocking to see how it affects my benchmark. maybe the gains are enough to appreciate? anyone else played around with overclocking?

  4. Well I would never have recommend you follow the process you did. Think about what you did. If the mmd or cmd had changes to the process or method in which things were done from version to version how changing the extension account for that? It is like taking a config file for your computer that worked in Xp renaming it to work in Win 7 then wonder why there are problems. The recommend and best method is to use the update utility. Following this process should yield the results you desire.

    HTH

I completely agree with you. However, the post processing and settings config files in X6 look remarkably similar to X2 (identical actually), so I figured it was worth a shot to just try to "force it through". I do get gcode, and it does match what I used to produce with X2, so I was partially right. The error messages I'm getting are not devastating, just irritating.

If I had to guess, I would say mastercam didn't change much of the post processing going to X6, but needed a way to get people to pay more for the initial setup. Sounds familiar, yes? (i.e. every software company ever)

Then again, it is monday, and I may just be extra cynical this morning. ;)

you can also find info here

    "C:\Program Files\mcamx6\documentation\MCAMX6_Transition_Guide.pdf"

    Thanks!

    To fix your cimco problem:

Select settings, configuration, go into the start / exit page and then at the bottom of that page change your editor to Cimco.

    That should do the trick.

    Thanks!

I'm going to dive into this on monday. Looking forward to finishing the transition and getting back to work!

  6. So, yeah...

computer is built, os installed, drivers installed, mastercam installed.

everything has went PERFECT, until now.

Can anyone point me to a guide for updating .pst, .mmd, and .control files to x6 from x2? I copied them over, renamed them *-6 so x6 would read them, but I still get error messages when I post the gcode.

Also, in X2 when I create an .nc file, CimcoEdit would automatically open up. This no longer happens. Suggestions?

  7. hard to say without dimensions.

at first glance, it looks like this would be an easy model to build if you wanted to use mastercam solids, you could use a revolved solid using ellipse geometry (z-axis rev) for the front, revolved solid for the rear using ellipse geometry (x-axis rev), and an extruded solid with draft for the body... like i said, it's hard to tell without dimensions. i'm assuming the the front and rear are symmetrical along the appropriate axis needed for revolving.

after you're done, split the solid into two. (copy it with 0x0y0z, draw a solid containing half of it, boolean remove 1 side, boolean intersect the other)

your view naming seems off, it may just be that your side view isn't standing upright to match your front.

anyways... i'm calling your front my top, and your bottom my front. i'm looking at the part as if it was laying flat on a table. (longest dimension is in the y-axis, shortest dimensions is in the z-axis)

  8. These guys can recommend and set you up with a Dell that matches your needs so you don't pay for something you won't use, or, buy something that under-performs for the type of work that you do. Also, at least when I bought our computer from them, you will get a better price than buying direct from Dell and a 3 year warranty to boot.

Unless you like buying components and building your own set up, this is hard to beat.

    http://www.emasterca...m +requirements

i thought these guys were ridiculously over priced. sure they were less than dell or HP, but that's like being excited that gas is only $3.85 a gallon instead of $4.00.

BUT... reko is correct. I only feel this way because I've custom built every computer i've owned since the pentium-1 100mhz days.

i'm currently working on a custom build for work that will cost $2,200.00

The same build from HP or Dell runs $3,300.00 to $3,600.00.

Support is great, but is it worth 50% more? maybe.

how computer savvy are you? are you ready to deal with multiple companies and multiple tech support depts if something goes wrong? do you enjoy trudging through bios to get ram setup properly?

if you want the custom build performance to cost ratio, but don't want to build it yourself look at www.cyberpowerpc.com. look into the Special PC > Workstation line.

they don't offer near the support or warranty that dell or hp offers, but they can build you a computer for almost as cheap as you can build one yourself.

regarding video cards... nVidia Quadro 600 is decent and cheap. Quadro 2000 is more than twice the cost, but performs as if you had two 600's.

  9. importing files always seems to be a crapshoot. I request that all files that are sent to me are sent in a native language, IGES, and STP.

In a perfect world, there would be one file format for all CAD systems. Standardized. What a glorious world it would be.

sometimes IGES works best, sometimes STP works best. in my experience, parasolid almost never works. (this includes parasolids that are created in newer versions of mastercam. creates some weird kernel error)

congrats on the import. it is a good feeling when you don't have to manually repair geometry.

  10. create

    arc

    arc 3 points

click the point first (can be anything autocursor snaps to, i.e. endpoint, midpoint, intersection.....), then the tangent icon on the ribbon bar that popped up, then click the other 2 entities you want the new arc to be tangent to.

you're on fire! exactly what i needed.

    thanks :)
