We just ordered a new machine and I am looking for suggestions on what collet chuck we should be looking at for it. We already talked with the sales man about this I and he suggested Royal or ATS. I am just looking for some alternitives to see if i can save the boss some money.

how about 5 Fadal's

Thanks Joe. Multitasking is the wording i was looking for.

My boss is going to IMTS and one of the machines he is looking for is a mill turn. I am trying to point him in the right direction as to what we need. Something like an Okuma Multis or Mazak intergrex. He keeps looking at machine with live tool holders on the turret which in my opinion for doing alot of 1 offs dont make since when i can load a magazine with the common tools we use.
-
Is there different wording for a mill turn where you mount the tools on the turret vs. with a magazine?
-
wish i was. 2 owners are going to look at mill turns and have no clue of what they are even looking at. I have to tell them what booths to go to and what to ask.
-
3 inch would be nice but i can live with 2 1/2

We are looking at getting our first mill turn. I have programmed and ran 5 axis (like the mazak Intergrex) and the turret style machines. We do alot of short order work. 1 to 5 pieces. I know the style machine I think we should get but I am looking for more opinions. Along with make of machine. The powers to be are treading lightly on this since I am the only one here with any experience on these machines.

This is a shot in the dark but M212 to unclamp the "C" axis. Its been a long time but I think thats what solved the problem for me.

Goldorak,
I am new to the milling world but been living in the lathe world since 1987. do you have any recomendations on tooling, depth of cut, feeds and speeds?

It's a Hurco vm1 with 7500 rpm. The material is 30 rockwell

Hi All,
I am milling a square 1.530 X 1.500 deep with 3/32 rad in the corners. And the parts already have a 1.500 hole in them. I usually just deal with the lahte dept but have been given the chance to do this. I feel my cycle time is way to long (apprex. 20 min) and my tool life is not good. we have x6 mill level 2. I am looking for tooling and tool path suggestions. I have tryed many different things and this part shouldn't be that big of a deal in my mind.
Thanks in advance
Dan

thanks for the warning keith. i will keep a eye on it
-
what i used was toolpath trim to get what i was looking for. i never even noticed this option before.
-
Wes i don't have the capability to do it that way. i was hoping for a simple 2d contour op with some sort of stock recognition like the lathe uses. i hope that makes sense
-
thanks wes i will give that a try

i forgot to mention i am doing this on a haas with a rotary table
