  1.         Would anyone know if on a Viper VTL with live Tooling and Fanuc Oi TD control, can and how would you orientate a C axis @ a certain position.

We have flange with existing holes, need to set C axis to one of the holes and mill a slot with reference to this hole?

    Thank you for any comments

  2.     You still can do perpendicular with an arc on the entry and exit, just put like a 20% arc @ say 90 deg.  do a small perpendicular entry and exit like 20 or 30% and your comp will work

  3.    I'm trying to mill these inverted radius serrations on a trunnion with a 4 axis mill, we don't have Mill 5 axis. The last three ops with the 82 Deg. mill, it seems to be close with xyz moves in backplot and verify,

But when I post the angles, XY, seem correct but not the Z's?  Also verify is not leaving flats evenly on the part?

Don't know if this is a 5 axis project or not?

      Thanks for your time

  4. Someone should give you a better idea, but I think if you have round solid already and just want to cut a taper say on top, I would make your taper solid on a separate layer, then you can Boolean.

  5.     Age old problem, we have had more than one machine do this almost all the time. A little grease on the retention knob helps a little, only bad for holding keeping clean. Also we sprayed a coat of moly on the taper also helps a little. Never could figure out what brand of tool holders work best, but we do have some that just won't stick????

Figure something out other than buying an Okuma or Doosan let us know.

  6.     The only experience we have with a Viper is a VTL we bought brand new 3 years ago.  It has an 80" swing, C axis and live tooling with Fanuc controls. We don't use the live tooling because of horsepower and rigidity. Machine has plenty of turning power and smooth, .50" depth of cut no problem.

We have a very serious issue with this machine, when we move the rail up or down it tapers no matter what we do. Cuts .030" to .050" taper in 24", we always have to spend a couple of hours to align it. Many people have tried to repair including the factory, same thing. We have a machine builder coming in this year to disassemble and rebuild the wedge lock design on the rails.

If you look at the woodworking forum in here you'll find people talking about what they feel are good routers.

       Good luck
