Oohh...
Good one!

Hey HTM,
Can you change surface normal on a single surface in a "two-surface" flowline path?
I can reverse them, but they both reverse, regardless of selection order.
was just sitting here pondering your response...

Master-
Break the path into 2 flowline operations, or create solid geometry to machine to.
Here was the quick fix.

Yes, pullo, thank you.
I have mine set at 250%, which Windows indicates as "recommended".
I tried lots of changes there, early on.
QTE reported that MasterCam is aware of this 4k resolution issue, and will release an update to address it.

I was beginning to suspect graphics card.
I'm glad you chimed in.

Where is my preferences file located in a standard install?
Icon placement, context menu selections, Background Color, etc.
I have 2018 running on both machines. Just want to steal my preferences from the old one.

Thanks for the G50 advice. I'll try to plug that in a little later.
As for retraction protocols, I don't see how simultaneous homing is any safer than x first? In fact, I find it more likely to clip the tail stock. Help me understand where my logic is flawed?
Thanks, J

CJep, I looked at that setting, and was already to set to 5-axis. I really hadn't poked around there yet, and appreciate the idea. I've tried a bunch of settings now, and still find that distance tool nearly useless. Does anyone make use of it?

Hi Sam,
Yes, I like the Dynamic Rough cycle too. I was simply going through a tutorial, and "fell down the rabbit hole". You know how it gets when a tool doesn't behave in a manner that you think it should.
Thanks for the input,

I like this toolpath.
FSWizard pro on my phone is usually really close.
220 SFM
.001 FPF
.035 Step Over
You'll be plunging outside the stock so crank that feed up, 100,200, anything big IPM.
Really concerned about chatter in that sharp radius, try some different trochoidial options if it does.
How many pieces do you need? I might try a plunge/step technique in that radius, if I needed heavy production.
FWIW

Will check out the dream drills.

Scott,
Really kinda small in diameter to get coolant thru.
Got a recommended peck for me?
Do you think .001 TIR is close for alignment? ( to get closer, I would need to align the turret's radial locking orientation)
Just ordered a Walter-Titex drill, per another poster's recommendation.
Had never used their online application selection tool, so cool.
Knew about the spot drill angle, only spotting on a barely...

With your offset geometry
-
Ok, in X5 2D High Speed Blend mill did not comp for your cutter, you will need to offset your geometry by the cutter radius, but I think this will give you the picture.

I think that is one of the new X9 2D High Speed tool paths, sorry.
It is called 2D Area Mill.
Set Up the Stock on the Stock Set Up Properties Page.
Chain your open Profile.
On the parameters page, choose entry tangent to stock.
Probably doesn't help you in ver 5.
Will check some of our other stations for a copy of ver 5.

Tool Manager crashes in 2018
in Industrial Forum
Posted
New Installation, but had been running 2018 on a different pc.
First time to access Tool Manager.
I can load a library, but double clicking on cutting tools to bring up a list in the center window, crashes the application.
Tried two different libraries, same result.
Task Manager reports ToolManager.shell is "not responding".
