  1. The hASP driver is prolly the answer guys. thanks
  2. I am the guy that posted the topic about a month ago where I had the trouble with my boss not wanting to upgrade my PC from V8 to V10. I'm not sure if anyone will recall, but I had some dificulty convincing them that it needed to be done. Long story short-- it still isn't done. I have a couple of problems, both leading to the reason I havent gotten V10 yet, and maybe, if resolved, will make it happen 1. I asked the question here before, but maybe I wasn't specific enough. Say for instance, I have V8 on my computer. When I install V10 and upgrade the HASP, will I still be able to go back and use V8 if I need to--off of the same HASP, same computer? Reason I ask about this is because for some reason, it did not work on his computer. He had the circumstances listed above, and now he can't run V8 anymore. it says the error message - "HASP NOT FOUND" (I have to be able to run V8 untill I get accustomed to V10, because I use it regularly to post for wire EDM machines...In the event something were to happen an I could not post, It would put the wire machines way behind. 2. My second problem, or should I say their problem, is that they cannot find the V8 software disc. So in other words, if something were to happen and my PC crashed or something, what would we have to do or (they) have to do to get another copy or get it back??? I am really getting frustrated with this because I know that I will benefit from using V10 alot, but they don't seem too worried about doing what they have to do to get it for me. And my boss has the mentality that if it aint broke don't fix it type thing....so I'm stuck with V8 untill a miracle happens lol. I would appreciate it if yall could help me out. Thanks
  3. I don't know if anyone here reads Manufacturing Engineering magazine, but I read it regularly. My boss gets it monthly along with some other magazines. When he gets done with them he always passes them on to me. As I read these magazines, my interest in other fields of work has been increasing. I work in a tool and die shop, and I program a vertical CNC, a CNC lathe, and 2 AGIE wire machines. My line of work is always busy, but It has just come to the point where there isn't much challenge to what I do. I want to get into a field of work where I might be able to be given the opprtunity to run a 5 axis, or program one, since I haven't done that yet. I live in South Alabama, so the pay here isn't as good as what I would imagine it would be up North. I would like to maybe get into something in the aerospace field, or medical. I like the kind of work where I would design a part, or I only run small numbers of parts. I absolutely do not like production. I don't have an engineering degree, but I would like to maybe work with an engineer. Some have suggested maybe mold making, but I haven't found anything in that field. I have an associates degree in machining from a local tech school. Relocating may be an option, considering the circumstances. Does Anyone know of a way that I could get my head in the door with a job opportunity like this, or where I would begin to look? Thanks
  4. OK, let me see if I can clarify some of the things in you guys' replies. The computers we have are all very up to date, so thats not an issue. I will be geting a new computer if this whole thing happens, because my PC is running windows 2000. I don't have access to the internet at work, some of the higher up people do, but I don't. I could get to this forum during the day by way of someone's computer though, provided I had there permision first of course. As far as training goes and learning the X2 software, I don't think I will have many issues. I am a very quick learner and artistically inclined to begin with. I am fluent in many CAD/CAM systems, not just MCAM. I have and can run FeatureCam, SurfCam, GibbsCAM, and PowerCAD too. The past couple of years have subjected me to many different sytems. I'm sure that I can find everything I need in the help files and if not I can get an answer somewhere. As far as the competition goes, There is no one really threatening competition. Or maybe I should say that my boss is not worried about it to the point that they will upgrade my software lol. As far as the Boss's demeanor. I work for a great company, and I have had nothing but good things happen to me during my time there. I am pretty sure he is not worried about me surpassing him in intelligence, lol. I run the wires, and he doesn't have much to do with them other than telling me what goes in them and when. I kind of feel like the way my boss looks at it is like this: If it aint broke, don't fix it. Or, if it's running fine now, why change it. I guess maybe the reason he doesn't like MCAM, is because it is more machining oriented. PowerCAD is similar to AutoCAD, and he draws prints and designs dies. He uses PowerCAD because it is more drafting oriented. I am the same way about PowerCAD, I don't care much for it, but I have to use it to make my own prints for the wire machines. I am kind of afraid to bring up the subject because I am afraid of hearing "NO", lol. He is the kind of person that once he makes a decision, he pretty much sticks to it, and I don't think a million dollars would make him change his mind. Of course it is also to be noted that I may be all wrong about all of the possibilities I'm coming up with, He may have a very good reason to not want me to have it. who knows. I don't really feel like it would be right to go over his head about the issue, but I do think I could resolve this that way. I know that his boss would jump on it for sure. But, where does that leave me in my Boss's eyes??? I don't want to do anything to cause friction between him and I, because we have a very good working relationship. There is one final possibility, and I am not sure what to do about this. The other day, they were looking for the V8 CD. We have a big problem with misplacing software CDs and I think it may have been lost, I never did here if they found it or not. If this is the case, I will not be able to get both systems-V8 and X2 on the new PC because the computer lady is building it for me. She is gonna put XP on it and load V8 and X2 on it afterwards. Of course I will move my hasp to the new one she builds for me. In other words, I may have the only computer in the building with V8 still on it, and in the event of a crash or loss, we would not be able to reinstall it because we don't have the CD. If this is the case, I know the whole thing is prolly out of the question because I kind of feel like my boss thinks if this upgrade makes us loose V8, he's really not gonna do it... Are yall with me now? Thanks for the replies and the help guys.
  5. I work in a toolroom and I am responsible for the majority of the CNC work that is done. I program a CNC vertical mill and I also run two AGIE classic wire machines. I learned to use Mastercam 9.1 in school. When I went to work at my current employer, they had MCAM8. It was a big adjustment to me, having to use a lower version of MCAM. I have trouble with it a lot. We just got news about 3 weeks ago that the company was upgrading to X2. I was so excited, because I have heard so many good things about X. Well, the boss uppgraded his and he doesn't like it. So, therefore, he doesn't think I should upgrade mine and won't let the company computer lady do mine. I am so upset about this! One of his fears is this: I use MCAM8 about every 3 or 4 hours to post files for the wire machines. he is worried that in the event we upgrade my HASP to run on X, I won't be able to figure out how to use it (since I see that is does have a new look)-I'm not sure exactly what it looks like for sure, I haven't gotten the opportunity to run it... I tried to explain to them, after asking several people about it, that once you have upgraded you can still use an older version and post from that if need. Am I right?? I have no doubt that I will be able to run X, but I don't make the decisions, lol. You have to excuse my boss, he is a POWERCAD guy and he has been using that for about 15 years. he does not like mastercam at all...HELP
  6. I talked with my dealer again and we got everything worked out. There was a misunderstanding and we got it all straightened out. Thank you for yalls help.
  7. I bought version 9 when it came out. The reason I want the rast2vec and eps is because I use it a lot. My version 9 does not have it. I don't want to buy the whole 9.1 version just to get that feature. My deler does not know where I can get this add-on. Where can I get it?
  8. I have version 9 mastercam on my comp at home. I attend a school that has version 9.1. I noticed that the 9.1 has this eps and ras2vec converter. I need this function, and I was thinking that maybe it was just a package file in the program files for 9.1. I was hoping That I could maybe copy that eps ras2vec converter and patch it in to mine and it would work. Will this work, or what are my options?
  9. I have a set of gears that came out of my nitro rc car. I had a mishap with the original nylon ones and I want to make a set out of aluminum. I have made everything on them but the teeth. There are two gears, one is about 2.200" in diameter and the other is about 1.900" in DIA. The smaller one is a 48 tooth and the larger a 52 tooth. I know that Mcam has a setup where you can create gears but what would I use to cut the teeth? They are not but about .100" apart if that. I thought maybe I would cut them out with a bandsaw(verticle) blade, and then finish them with a file but of course there is no such file set to that exact pitch. If you were cutting the teeth in theese gears what would be your setup, and would you even use mcam?
  10. We have a fryer 30/60 where I work and the guy that runs it calls it a chicken bucket. He says it is a good durable machine and the controler is pretty good. He says there are just certain things about it that doesnt make sense sometimes, like it will do crazy stuff now and then. I learned most of my cnc on a haas and I think they are great machines for plastics and AL and maybe a mild steel. I do agree with others on their durrability. I have never had a problem with the controls of a haas mill or lathe, they always seemed pretty much dummy proof. I may sound dumb mentioning this because I don't know what other's responses will be but we have a Daewoo 40/60 also. This machine is hands down the best machine in the shop in my opinion. controls are relatively easy to understand and it is one hell of a durable machine. stainless and hot rolled are the 2 common metals run in this particular mill and it does a great job. never really any big problems either. good luck.
  11. I have tried several times and looked a bit but I can't seem to find it or something like it. Is there a similar function that may work the same way or do I have to have ras2vec? I am interested in the kind of work where you take a picture or a design and create the geometry for it and run it. Any hints, or does nayone know of a place where I can find ras2vec? Thank you for your replys.
  12. I am new to the board and I am in school to be a machinist. I come in contact daily with the Mastercam software. Although I don't own a version of my own I use it all the time on educational computers. I currently have been using version 9.1 and found it to have a feature called a converter by the name of rastrvec or eps. this function is under the file/converters/next menu/rastrvec - eps) in the version 9.1. I used version 9.0 the other day and found it not to have this feature. The question I'm asking is this: Is that a difference between the two versions or does the version 9.0 I used just happen not to have it? If information is available on where this feature can be obtained I would greatly appreciate your help. thanks
