Speaking of ingersol check out these videos I posted on my FB page.
http://www.sciencedump.com/content/anything-metal-you-own-made-through-badassery
Those videos are very cool! Badassery at it's finest!
One tool which was omitted was a feedmill. I'd be interested to closely watch the chip formation
of an Mits AJX style cutter.
Does Ingersol make such a tool?

Thanks Jeff. That worked da bomb.
I don't know why I couldn't figure that one out for myself. It must be time to go home.

I have a solid model of a part which will be plated. Is there a way for Mastercam to calculate the surface area of the part?
Analyze/Volume gives the volume, but not the surface area.

I experience the same promlem. I'm using Windows 7, MC X4 MU3.

I agree Craig. In fact, unless there is a reason not to, such a limited program space, I'd recommend implementing both of your suggestions because this is a difficult circumstance to re-create.
Doing both things has the greatest potential to eliminate the problem forever.

Flie/Browse was removed
That's too bad. It was a handy feature for situations like I am experiencing.
I appreciate your replies.

There is/was a feature which was very useful to find a Mastercam file when I forgot the file's name.
By choosing file/browse and pointing to the directory where the file may be, Mastercam would open each file automatically.
If I saw the file, I could hit a button and the last file opened would stay active.
Where did this feature go... or is there a better way to do this now?

I don't understand why a feature which allows the machine to run faster and more accurately needs to be turned on.
Who has ever said, "My machine runs too fast." or "What can I do to increase corner rounding errors?"
So why doesn't the machine automatically turn this feature on?

An excellent post to bring closure to the problem.

I know I've milled it before, but I have no memory how it behaved.
This could be a false-repressed memory, but I remember it flaking.

Chris, give me a call when you have a chance.

Ya know if there was a **cough** list of bug fixes available, there might be less dirty laundry around these parts...lol

I'm running X4 and sometimes find it helps to Delete Duplicut Entities, and Analise/Check Surfaces before trying to heal a solid.

Thanks G.
That's an interesting place for that button (inside the loops dialog). I didn't think that effected finishing.
I learned something new.

I'm using a traditional pocket toolpath. For a cutting method, I've chosen "high speed" and notice the finish pass is not fully machining the inside radius. ie Mastercam is generating a larger inside-corner than I need.
I don't see anything about trimming in the documentation. Has anyone else experienced this?

Can you Email it to me? [email protected]

Sandy, he probably has all of the edge curves he needs. I think it's more likely the chain pauses at a branch and being a newbie, he doesn't know what to do.

Threadmill with taper angle?

I like to use the two line method. I've found it very reliable and simple to use.
I am open to new ideas and would like to use dynamic planes more often. I've played with it a little and probably would use it more if it were part of the view manager.

It sounds like your WCS is different.

I've tried to use FB-drill without much sucess.

I simply do not understand why Fanuc has performance options which must be turned on. When was the last time someone complained their machine was running too fast or accurate.

What are you trying to do with the fourth axis? I don't remember any difficulty using level 1 and a fourth axis.
-
You could try this.
1. If you were to use a 1/2 inch ball, you can create/surface/offset and Offset the surfaces by 1/4.
2. In a 2d shape above the part, create a pocket or facing toolpath with a very small stepover.
3. Backplot the toolpath and use the "save as geometry" option.
4. Project the saved geometry to the offset surfaces.
5. 3D contour the projected lines with your 1/2 inch ball, with cutter-comp set to off and tip-comp set to center (not tip)
