  1. I was using contour and ended up drawing a ruled surface covering the inside area of the mold so it just cut the outside. Restmill was not selected. Drawing a boundary around an area and cutting inside works great just not sure if I can get it to ignore the inside and just cut the outside. Thanks
  2. Hi, I want to surface the outside of a mold. I've drawn a box around all the inside features and want to cut to the outside of the box. Choosing "outside" under tool containment doesn't work. Any ideas or is this possible? Thanks
  3. Thanks, I ended up going to an old tool library and it works. Not sure what the problem is.
  4. I've been using the same tool library since X6. My default value for a 1/4-20 is 800 @ 40 which is correct. Only since I've been using X9 has this been a problem. It's just weird, in the past I could change the rpm to whatever and the feed would automatically adjust.
  5. Hi and forgive me if this has been brought up before. I just haven't seen it yet. With Mcam X9 whenever I change the rpm of a tap the feed shoots up to an impossible number (17,000 or so). With earlier versions it would calculate the correct feed at that rpm. For example a 1/4-20 at 800 rpm is 40 ipm. When I change the rpm to 850 the feed, now, shoots up to 17000. I've tried playing with settings with no success. Any ideas? Thanks
  6. I just looked, it is unchecked. "Assign tool numbers sequentially" is the only thing turned on.
  7. I click the "select library tool" button, pick the tool I want, change speed and feed if needed and then go thru the rest of my parameters. I must have something set wrong somewhere, just don't know what.
  8. No, I went to the library and picked a 3/8 flat em. After going thru the param's tool 2 just pops up.
  9. I found I have to make the change, hit enter, then the apply button and the change will stick.
  10. Every once in awhile MC will pick a cutter all by itself. For example, this morning I program a roughing operation with a flat 3/8 em. Set my parameters, post and download. The machine starts a toolchange to go to tool 2 and I only had tool 1 in the program. I go back to MC and there is a 1/4" ball as tool 2 which I didn't add. Any idea guys? This happened a bunch in X3 and a few times in X4 and now in X5. Thanks Rick
  11. 99% of these problems are with new files that were never opened in X3. I check the library paths and they go to X4. Trevor is setting up an on-line meeting later this morning. Seems like some sort of software glitch but I haven't been able to track it down. Thanks
  12. I'm glad its not just me! Another problem I forgot to mention is drilling extra holes that have not been selected. I've only scrapped one part so far but I have to watch it like a hawk.
  13. Have you had any other weird problems?
  14. I tried making new tool libraries such as "Flat End Mills". All tools listed as tool 1 but they still come in as tool 2 once in awhile.
