  1. Our company is currently in the market for a new cnc router, and we are doing research to find out which brand is right for us. We are currently looking into Thermwood, Komo, and Haas. If anyone has input about their experiences with these machines as well as their controllers, we would appreciate it. We have been working with a Thermwood 42, but are no longer going to be able to use this machine. We are wondering if we should get one of these, or look elsewhere. Our experince with the Thermwood was pretty good, but we did not care for the 91000 controller too much. Any advice would be helpful... Thanks!
  2. I uploaded the file onto the FTP site, here is the link: ftp://www.ppcadcam.com/Mastercam_forum/MC...PER_PROFILE.MC9 Winnie - I can't do what you suggested since my model does have splines. That is one problem I keep having...
  3. I am working with MasterCam Router which does not have solids or 3D capabilities. I am trying to cut a 3D part using the 2D Swept toolpath which I was told was the only way to do it. I am trying to make a profile of the part I am making which is a rectangle (72 x 5.5 x 0.52 in.) It consists of two flat sections at either end, and an arc that runs from about 8 inches in on either end. What is happening is that the 2D swept is making me do each individual section at a time (the flat section, the arc section, then the final flat section) At the edge of each section I am getting a step after tooling. I want a smooth transition, and cannot figure out how to do that. Is there a way to overlap the sections or the toolpaths so that it creates a smooth transition from the flat to the arc and vice versa? Thanks! Mike
  4. I've been having the problem with .sldprt that they are not importing as solid bodies, only lines. I'll give it a shot right now and see what happens...
  5. I am trying to export a SolidWorks file into .iges format, so that rather than just exporting a solid body, it exports the curves as well. I have found a b-spline and parametric spline way of exporting them so that they have lines, but these won't let me do a 2D swept toolpath (which is the only way to do this part in the software I am dealing with). Any ideas?
  6. I had tried messing with the WCS, but not in that manner. I will be referring to the WCS tutorial from now on. Thanks for all the help!
  7. Thanks Storkman! Wish I would have had an internet connection yesterday when I was trying to figure this out...
  8. I've been having trouble flipping a part completely over. What I am trying to do is make the bottom the top, and the top the bottom. I've tried every way of rotating and mirroring to get the desired result. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks!
  9. Thad-- What you recommended worked, but I also found out that the file itself was corrupt. When I got the correct file and tried your advice, I was able to manipulate them. You from D-Town? I just moved out to Colorado from Ann Arbor. Spent a lot of time in that area...
  10. I am trying to learn MasterCAM to cut out solids (we make skis). I've got a book right now thats Version 9 Mill & Solids. It is alright, but I feel I need some more depth on the 3D toolpaths. If anyone has a good recommendation that will help me familiarize with the software, I'd appreciate it.
  11. I'm trying to create toolpaths for some parts that were created in Solidworks. I have some .sldprt files and some .igs files, and I am having problems with both. The .igs files allow me to click on pieces or the entire solid, but won't let me edit or select individual lines/curves. I need this to be able to create chains and boundaries. The .sldprt files will let me select lines and curves, but won't let me select the solid bodies. For the toolpaths I am trying to create, I need both of these capabilities (I think). I'm new to Mastercam, but have basic knowledge of CAD/CAM software. Any help people could offer on this would be appreciated. Remaking the part in Mastercam is not really an option right now. Thanks!
