  1. Mowens, I have a guitar body that cadcam sent me as an expample. I don't have the solids module with my Router license. I just recently downloaded Rhino3d and have been playing with it creating solids. I'll upload the guitar drawing to cadcam's ftp side, to the drawings folder. It will be called "Guitarbody1.3dm". I was looking at the drawing in Rhino and saved it under that format. I have been looking at a cam plugin for Rhino to machine complex surfaces. Thanks, Chris
  2. Doug, Thanks for the reply. He said I'd need Router Plus but looking at the Mastercam literature, there appeared to be only 2 items that differentiated Router from Plus. I thought that $3500 was alot for only adding "Single and limited multi-surface roughing" & " Single and limited multi-surface finishing" according to the MC website. Thanks, Chris
  3. Exactly what is the difference between Router and Router Plus? I would like to be able to machine guitar bodies like a Strat style that has arm relief and back relief. I'm told that I can't do it with my MC Router package. It appears to be a significant price to move from Router to Router Plus. Thanks, Chris
  4. I am trying to print a drawing that's on the screen. It worked earlier today. Now, it crashes when I click on the print icon. I have tried rebooting. I didn't change anything in the setup. Any ideas? I have the latest update. Thanks, Chris R
  5. Hi Everyone, I have been researching how to clean up my corners on mdf doors and found this thread. I need a little more detailed help. I'm using Mcam Router v9.1MR0304 and a Thermwood Model 40. The tooling I have is the Whiteside #5720 slant raised panel tool, #5610 inside edge tool and a #1570 Point cutter round over for cleaning up the corners. I have read this post but I'm having some difficulty. I'm weak on drawing in 3d and I have never used the ATP function. So this will be a valuable lesson. Can someone please email me instructions? I really appreciate your help! Thanks, Chris Robinson
  6. Ok, I got it to work. I found the "Passive" and unchecked it. Thanks, Chris
  7. It won't allow me to log on. The dialog box says that the server won't allow me to log on anomyously and my emastercam password doesn't work either. Chris
  8. I have XPsp2. I'll check for "Passive". Is it under tools? Chris
  9. Hi Everyone, I have been trying to access cadcam's ftp site and I'm having some problems. When I click the link, a new Explorer window opens up with a flash light moving around. In the bottom left corner, it says "searching for contents". Then it states it couldn't access the site. No contents found. I have tried disabling my firewall to no avail. Could someone please help me out. I'd like to take a look at some of the guitar drawings! Thanks, Chris Robinson
  10. I'm trying to access cadcam's ftp site but I'm having difficulty. When I click on the link, a seperate Explorer window pops up and a search light is shown. In the bottom window, it says "searching for contents" then times out and/or locks up. I have disabled my firewall to no avail. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Chris Robinson
  11. Ok, I need to copy a prototype guitar body and neck. I have a Thermwood cnc and it also has a hand-held controller. I've been trying to draw the parts in mastercam and I'm not getting very far. I have Mastercam Router v9. Any advice on how to go about using the hand-held controller and creating the cad file based on the actual part? The Thermwood controller will allow me to move to a point and then enter the location and it will save the command. It will also allow me to do archs and other functions and enter to save. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris Robinson
  12. How should I upload the cross sections? Also, how do I get to Jay's FTP site? Thanks, Chris Robinson
  13. Hi Everyone, I'm about to begin a new project that will require I do something I've never done before. Now before your minds run wild, I'm talking about maching a 2.5d surface. Here's the scoop. I want to machine a guitar neck and body. For example, on the back of the neck, the width at the end would be 43mm wide with a boat shape, at the heel, the width of the neck would be 55.5mm. I'm at a total loss on how to draw this and then have the router profile the neck. On the guitar body, instead of having a top surface on one plane, I want to have the upper rear section taper to allow a comfortable place for you arm to rest. I know how to do all of this on manual machines but I have never attempted to draw something in 3d or machine in 2.5d. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Chris Robinson Up to this point, all of my experience has been with 2d cabinet parts.
  14. Thanks guys! I'm learning. At least it was an easy fix and not a bad vfd, spindle or plc! I'll get new tooling in tomorrow and get that job out. Thanks everyone, you guys ROCK! Happy New Year, Chris
  15. Well people, I have good news. The problem has been resolved. It turns out that Thermwood's control doesn't look for spindle speed on a constant basis. If there isn't a M31 command following a tool change, the mysteriously stopping spindle issue occurs. The programmer told me that as the controller looks ahead 50 lines or so, it may run across a spindle speed command and it looks back for that M31 command and if not there, it get's confused and allows the spindle to stop unbeknownst to the plc. So, when I went back through all of the programs and looked where the spindle would stop, it was always near 50 lines before a S-command. Qwerky to say the least. You would think that the plc would always be polling the vfd or something. Anyway, after modifying the post to include a M31 after every tool change command, it resolved the problem. What say you?! Thanks to everyone for their help. Live and learn, that's all we can hope to do. Chris
