  1. I installed Mastercam X4 on my home computer running Windows 7. It installed properly but when I click on the icon from the desktop it flashes the Mastercam startup screen for about 2 sec and then will not open Mastercam. what is causing this issue? Is there some sort of config I need to add to my computer? Thank you, Nickleback
  2. When I am trying to trim a flat surface to curves I am getting the error box that states (surface boundary not closed). I analyzed the curve using the (chain, analyze) and it goes all the way around the curve with no problems. I know for a fact that the curve has no breaks in it. Is there a tolerance setting or something in the options that is causing me problems?
  3. How do you apply plastic part shrinkage in Mastercam X? I am designing the entire plastic injection mold in Mastercam X. This process is new to me. What are the steps in spliting the core and cavity without having Moldplus? We are using Mastercam X only due to we don't have the money to spend on Moldplus at this time. I just need some direction on how to make the splits.
  4. Good!! I just purchased the Mastercam X Mill Tutorial from In House Solutions. This is a very in depth book. It explains what everything is very well. I have never found a book as good as this one.
  5. How do you know what to change the Cut depth, Gap setting and Advanced settings to when doing 3D surface machining. I have gone through different tutorials and they tell you what to put in the boxes, but what does the stuff mean? Why do you change to certain settings for certain paths? Is there any info that explains this in depth more than the ? info from the software? Thank you for any help.
  6. What is a good rule of thumb for the depth of cut using a flat, ball endmill while machining soft tool steel? While machining graphite? (Carbide cutters)Does 1/2 of cutter dia. sound good for tool steel? 3/4 of dia. for graphite?
  7. 1) How do you figure what feeds and speds to run cutters at? Does the same formula apply as regular milling from the Machinery's handbook? 2) What operations and parameters work the best from the Mastercam? We are using Mill Level 3. I was told one trick is to keep the cutter cutting. Keep it into the workpiece or it will dull faster. 3) We are machining graphite with the machine. It is a Haas VF-2 HSM. What types of cutters work the best for machining.
  8. We do not have Mastercam Solids. I am using the MCDirect function from Solidworks to automaticaly open Mastercam and import the object into it. It works great. When clicking the Mastercam Direct button on the Solid Works toolbar I hit Mill. And than another box opens up. I than use Feature-less Brick? and Import Operations. My question is if I am doing this correct by using these two options. And what does Feature-less Brick mean? What does it do? What's the best way to be bringing a Solid Works part into Mastercam when you have no Mastercam Solids?
  9. Can someone explain in detail what Solidworksdirect is? Can I use it if I don't have Mastercam Solids? We run Mastercam Mill 3. What are the connection between Mastercam and SolidWorks? I heard they work well with each other.
  10. Has anyone heard what the new features are for X? Is the cad part leaning towards a Solid Works look?
  11. Sorry guys. I'll choose my words better next time!!
  12. When editing a post such as MCHaas. What do you do with the bug1, bug2, bug3, bug4 area. I would like to know which line of the post is creating which G and M codes. I want to be able to find the post line to edit.
  13. If anyone has a Haas post for Mastercam 9 can I get a copy from you? I have the generic one for the Haas from Mastercam, but it puts allot of garbage in for codes. I want a post that is ironed out. Thank you!!
  14. What is the best way to machine with a roughing endmill? I know if you cut conventional manualy the endmill machines nice. If you machine climb milling manualy the cutter grabs badly. I was told to machine in a cnc climb milling. Is this correct? The servo motors are keeping the table from jumping I was told. Is all this true? I guess I would like to know the best way to use a roughing endmill. Please help?
  15. What exactly does the depth cut option do in the surface project page? Does it take the depth cuts from your 2d cutter path? Say if I wanted to cut my 2d path at a depth of .1 and had 4 cuts of .025 would turning the depth cuts on in the surface project page use these .025 depth of cuts? Thanks, nickelback
  16. Why wouldn't Surface Finish Contour work for finishing the letters?
  17. I saved the file in the MC9 files folder and the file is called A-half letters asm. Thank you
  18. What is the best way to machine raised letters and raised detail on a concave and convex surface? The geometry is an imported solid model. I tried to use the fnish project, but have not gotten good results. I keep getting an error message. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a better toolpath that would work for me? The part is small and I need to use 1/16 and 1/32 ball endmills. I did get good results with Surface,Finish,Radial. And than use Finish, Surface, Contour to clean everything up with the 1/32 ball endmill. If there is a better way to do this please help! Thank You
  19. I need to know what type of cutter is best to use when machining letters in graphite. The letter are standing up .03 high and are .02 wide by .07 high. Does anyone have experience in maching standing letters in grafdite. It is for an electrode to burn a cavity in an injection mold. Thank you
  20. Two good books I recommend - How To Make Injection Molds and Mold Engineering. Books are not cheap, but they tell you a hell of allot more than some big headed jerk that is your supervisor at work. (They are very good books!)Go to www.hansergardner.com and you will find them there. May have to punch them in under the search area. Oh! Thanks for the help guys!
  21. Hey Guys! I know this is a mold making question, but I really need to know if anyone has had any trouble. When the geometry is scaled up the percent of what the plastic shrinks, is this going to give an exact demensioning of what the steel is in the mold? And the geometry has to be exactly on center to properly scale, doesn't it? Another thing I would like to know is if shrink and scale are the same exact thing?
  22. In a CNC Milling machine a roughing endmill is not to be cutting in a clockwise direction. Is this true? Even though a cnc has ball screws you are not supposed to run a roughing endmill any other than conventional milling. Is this also true?
  23. Why do you have to create a surface in a certain direction? What is the purpose of flowline and curves? Do you need to use these options when you bring a solid model or a surface only model into MasterCam? Are these used only for creating a wireframe from the surface that was created? Why is direction important and how does a guy know?
