quote:camworks with solidworks for machining?
it gives you auto feature regconization for toolpathing... and use your SW design to do toolpath without exporting.... but I wouldn't rate that as high-end or anything close to CAM TOOL.

but the problem is your boss saw CSI TV series last night where they zoom in into the picture of the victims eye to see the reflection of the murderer. And he expects that u can pull something like that with ras2vec.

thanks for correcting, Jay

not sure if COPRA ROLLFORM will do what you're asking for...check out their website:

... sorry i didn't see that. never tried in V8 but in V9 there is .ai converter under File, Convert, Next menu, EPS.... not sure until what version it works on.
-
mastercam can read .ai files directly... look under Open, file type.
So far, Mastercam doesn't support the latest formats..... u need to save as previous version to get it open in MCX......in AI CS2 V12 ( the latest) save as file with a new name, the options pops up asking for the settings, from there u can save in older .ai formats.... AI version 8 has worked for me.

Using X?
Using the point toolpath might give what you want. So just input the start point and endpoint of your line to get the result u want.

definitely something seriously wrong with the PC graphics

that did the trick, thanks

My drill toolpath point selection seem to filter out automatically points with the same XY location but with diff z. Is there any way to disable this?
My current workaround is to drill them seperately...
Can't find the setting anywhere.

wow! thanks Ron, Bruce for the offers for help,
right now I'm going to follow what Ron and Jack said, before this had the surface of grooves extended but didn't know where to continue from there. Need to figure out how to create the curve at the center.
I'm going through the Mill 4/5 axis tutorial and want give another shot at this.
Might put it at the ftp if I still can't figure it out, so thanks for the offers.
quote:could be made extremely simple by just rotating the toolplaneI want to try this.... and I could compare the verify model to see if cut evrything.
Its ngihttime here, going to continue work on weekend , again thanks for the advice....

quote:is it a "u" or "v" profile?
it is a semicircle profile.

I’m having problems doing toolpaths for it. Got the finish cut going by doing swarf cut on the helix profile. But couldn’t find any toolpath good enough to cut the groove.

Hi guys, I need some help evaluating my 5 axis part. Going to cut this on a Mazak Variaxis (table-table) Here's the model:
What toolpaths should I use to cut the grooves out?
My multisurface roughing settings gouged the part? Whats the best way to rough this?

so, where is the Pip's sticky? or is this it?

will this one do?

Check the sample file in C:mcamxmcxMillSamplesMetricprojectPROJECT-CURVES-MM.MCX
Is this what you want?

X2 right?
any path or certain path only?
any file or specific file?- want to share the file?
any PC or that PC only?- whats the PC spec?
I tried here with no problem. Thats all I could think of right now.

virus?
could test this.. change any setting in your config and apply.. see if that restart the PC
just a thought

I'm going to go over there next week where they have it installed and test this...
quote:When you say 10 micron is that a visual measurement from comparing edges or are you actually analyzing the distance between points ?I tried opening inside solidworks and the the tools there report that one of the edges that are supposed to be coincident are 10 microns apart.
I tried converting to surfaces but mastercam generates untrimmed surface of the model. guess I have to spend my weekend patching things up. Thanks guys for your input.
-
is there anyone out using software called TOPSOLID with Mastercam, what format do you import in? we tried bringing parasolid model of an elecctrode but the model edges don't match up with each other, some bigger than 10 micron...
is there any setting in TOPSOLID to avoid all this? or do I need to patch this up manually...
Thanks for any input!

quote:I’m going to have to reinstall V9, use it (which by the way freaks out the net hasp on our server and must be manually reset after using V9). I’m saving time and making money now!quote:I covertly reinstalled V9 from a disc the I.T. guys don’t know about and I know how to reset the hasp server
Paul B.,
Could you explain why you need to "reset the HASP server"? How do you that anyway?
We use the netHASP here and most of the staff here run V9, X, X2 side by side without doing anything to the server

I had a imported solid CAD data from TOPSOLID that made the pencil toolpath make mystery vetrtical loops. When converted the solid data to surfaces... I saw the fillet surfaces fold onto itself... HTH
