  1. I have an odd feeling I'm missing something very simple but, I can't seem to get custom tool geometry to properly generate. I'm able to import the geometry, however the tool path and the render seem to think the tool is square. Obviously this would not cut the surface I need. I understand that most tools can be rendered by adjusting the values in the tool editor. But I'd like to figure out how to do this the properly. That way I'll know how to do it when the time comes. I've attached an image as an example as to what my issue is.
  2. A few weeks ago I started programming for a new shop and their programmer is really against using dynamic tool paths. He seems like he has a lot of experience programming. But It really seems like he leaves a lot on the table as far as speeds and feeds and not wanting to use dynamic cutting. When I ask him about the tool paths he insists dynamic is unnecessary and will wear the tool out more. That doing light depths of cuts quickly is more ideal since you can move faster. Even running simulations I'm able to prove that it's false and every documentation I've read said tool wear is more even and less harsh in the corners with hsm. I only have about 6 years of programming under my belt compared to his 9 or 10. He also has a reputation for going threw endmills pretty quickly. The machines they're using are haas mills that aren't very old. If any, what would be the drawbacks of using dynamic tool paths? Can cutting using a HEM technique put more stress into the part causing it to warp more than light DOC? Should I just keep my head down and program my own style and let my parts do the talking?
  3. @crazy^millman I have been playing with the other tool paths with no luck. Would you be able walk me threw a bit how to set up the multiaxis tool path for 3 axis?
  4. @crazy^millman I'm using 2018 with what looks like most milling option available, is there a particular toolpath I should be looking for? I did forget to mention that I am using a 3x mill for this job. @billb Would that would with only a single surface? The undercut I'm looking to do looks more like an upside down "T" so it's not a full pocket.
  5. After more time than I care to admit, I was able to work out how to surface finish an undercut. However the surface needs to be roughed before I'm able to run the finish pass. Now I'm stuck again. Ideally I'd like to be able to run an undercutting "rough parallel" type of move to bring it in. But despite playing with all the buttons I can't quite get it to work. Is there something I'm not seeing here or should I start working on drawing lines to use for a traditional contour move?
  6. Just wantint to make sure I wouldn't break any rules. Pretty much I'd like to record a short video explaining the issue I'm having and post a link on here. The main reason being, not only would it save having to write pretty long paragraphs, but last time i tired i wasn't able to get the help i needed because the question was being miss understood.
  7. Is there in option in X9 to set a feed plane for a drilling operation? I need to avoid some clamps between some holes but I don't always want to retract as high after each one. If possible I'd like to retract 4" at the start and end of the program but only come up 1.5" between holes and rapid down to .35 before it starts feeding.
  8. I was able to make it work using the project method you recommended. Thank you for the help, now I'll be able to sleep in peace hahaha So far I've never used the silhouette boundary tool. Definitely have to check that out
  9. It seemed like an easy thing to do but for whatever reason I can't seem to figure it out. I have a angled line on the z axis and I'm trying to extend it to a surface above it. Is there a way to do it that I'm just not seeing?
