here is the error
I tried removing and re picking, the directory is correct that did not work.
This is on a brand new install. Brand new computer box running Win 7.

I'm sorry I may have not made my question clear.
When you first open MC on a new part...before you have done anything....not even imported the part file yet... you have to pick a machine right?
I try and pick my machine (haas 4x mill ) and it says axis combination not supported and then defaults to the generic 3x mill
Dave
-
Just started using x7 went to post something after I had picked the generic haas 4x mill
when I try and select it from the machine drop down menu in MC I get an error axis combination not supported.
Tried deleting and repicking the post cant seem to get around this.
Any ideas?
all I want to do is use the generic Haas 4X post.
-
Yes that did the trick thank you very much John!
Next time you buy a beer, get something good and pretend I bought it for you
-
I'm using the Haas SL 4X post. I have made modifications myself in the past but only under adult supervision .
John I sent you an e-mail, thank you again.

First time trying to use rigid tap on my ST-10.
Post is outputting a G32, we need a G84.
Anyone know what to change in the post? I did not find a switch anywhere, I was hoping it would be that simple...
Any help appreciated.

Is it a dual spindle sl? What it's doing is using the sub spindle to pull the bar. Are you using it that way, or lie a royal spring gripper or coolant powered bar puller in the turret?
Oh no, I though it would do the bar pull from a turret mounted device.
My misundertanding.
I don't have a dual spindle machine.
-
Thanks
So if I'm using an X6 post no post mods needed, just define stock and chuck?
If it's bar pull I'm looking for is there anything else?
-
I was poking around at the new lathe edition I see there is a bar pull pickoff, etc.
When I try and use it says not supported in my post, which is the SL post.
Any idea how to turn it on, or is it a custom code / pay for type thing?
-
OK thanks very much Trevor
-
How do you switch from new to old?
is it this line...
1=yes - Set based on Axis Combination in MD
old_new_sw : 1 #Switch old (6T), new (0T+) cycle formats, 0=old, 1=new
I did find the codes listed by Trevor.
I'm using the stock haas SL post in X6
Oh man this is always an adventure.
I appreciate all of your help.
I really screwed something up as after some modifications it was not even posting out G76, then I reloaded the backed up post and tried again and it seems to be doing what it should I will have to try and run the code through the machine later this evening and see. I must have fat fingered something. Not the first time.
-
J, thanks a lot.
I will send you the z2g this evening I'm at work right now.
Appreciate the help.
-
If I delete the first 76 line it throws an error "no I, j, k" something...
That format that adage caga posted will run.
Anyone know how to change the post so it will output the g76 lines that way?
-
Just got a haas lathe it stops dead at the G76 line and will go no further, spindle keeps turning.
I'm using the stock X6 haas SL lathe post
I dont have any idea what is wrong.
The book says it needs a q value with no decimal I have that, it's posting a "0" that is supposed to be the thread start angle.
The P value should be an option (single edge cutting) for multi start threads no idea why I get "P010029"?
This is what I get when I post it (standard 1/4-20 thread supposed to be 5 passes)
G00 T0707
M8
G97 S1500 M3
G00 G54 X.45 Z.4107
G76 P010029 Q0 R0.
G76 X.1905 Z-.29 P297 Q117 R0. F.05
M9
G28 U0. W0. M5
T0700
M01
example in the book is G76 X Z K.042 (thread height) D0.0115 ( first pass depth) F.0714
any idea what I should change in the post to get this running?

Ahhhhhhahahahah
I got it!
Combination of the lead in and out and my cut order setting.
I changed that and now it does exactly what I wanted, cuts all blades all the way around.
Posted code looks good as far as tilt direction and all.
Thanks for your help!
-
I tried using a fixed type lead in and out.
It did not appear to change this gouge, which is a lead in, not a tilt.
I still get the message that I've exceeded rotary limits but the back plot does not seem to show any violation of the limits.
The posted code appears to only cut 1/2 of the part although the sim and backplot cut the whole thing.
The part is just a cylinder with twisted blades around it
-
Thanks for all of your replies.
I have used 90 degrees and it seems to post out OK, except it skips 1/2 of the part features because I've asked it to tilt out of range.
It's pretty clear to me now these are two separate issues, one fixed (the primary axis angle thing) and one user error...me telling it via some parameter to tilt too far.
The back plot shows this wild tilt that occurs during lead in and I'll bet that is where the problem is....I'll have to spend some time trying to figure that out.
I am getting some 5 axis training arranged, this 5 axis thing (simultaneous paths) is more daunting than I thought it would be.
-
Here are my limits from the post, they appear to be correct.
Is it correct that the primary is the B axis, secondary is the A? Seems counter intuitive for some reason.
#Rotary axis travel limits, always in terms of normal angle output
#Set the absolute angles for axis travel on primary
pri_limlo$ : -9999
pri_limhi$ : 9999
#Set intermediate angle, in limits, for post to reposition machine
pri_intlo$ : -9999
pri_inthi$ : 9999
#Set the absolute angles for axis travel on secondary
sec_limlo$ : -120
sec_limhi$ : 120
#Set intermediate angle, in limits, for post to reposition machine
sec_intlo$ : -120
sec_inthi$ : 120
This is the first op, I tried adding a drill op from the top, WCS T and C planes but I still get the same errors or messages.
even with the machine def settings matching the post as far as axis limits go
Still getting that "tool cannot be positioned within machine rotary limits" message
could be the settings in the program, maybe I asked it to tilt too much without knowing it?
-
Well I left the misc values alone.
Where does it say to add an axis?
I just went back and looked at the error message again
Says
"vertical tool detected! Enter primary axis angle."
Currently trying a 5axMsurf path.
And its funny also because I ran this post with a part last week, with both simultaneous and positing tool paths and it worked fine
-
Trying to post out a 5 axis simultaneous program
I'm getting a message when I post the program, a window pops up and asks what the primary axis angle is.
I do not know what it is asking.
I have tried zero and 90, both result in an error message that I have exceeded motion limits, but he program still posts out after the error message.
the part is 1" tall so I don't know how that could have happened.
This is with the standard Haas trunion post
Any guidance appreciated.

What are the best books / videos to learn from?
I don't have the time to take off of work to attend a class so this would have to be book or video learning.
-
Ahhh
You got it!
Damn I did not think of that I was so focused on the locations I did not look at the rotary moves I just don't think in multi axis yet
Driving me nuts!
thank you!

OK Solved.
I deleted the user file and the machine group file and did a repair and that seemed to solve it
Wierd.
Thanks for your help.
