Translating Toolpaths

has anyone had any trouble translating tool paths to an additional location? I translated a simple tool path and checked the box(create new operations and geometry) If I delete the first operation in the manager and just keep the 2nd one and I backplot "step" through that operation the coordinates are to the op that I deleted. Any Ideas?

Hi Chad,

My method of using this fuction is as follows:

type and methods tab:

Type Box-- in this case choose TRANSLATE

Method Box--Choose COORDINATE( Typically if wer're translating the new path thru/in the same plane).

Dont Check-- Create new operations and geometry or any other box on that side of the dialog.

work offset and numering Box:

Choose OFF in this case.

Translate Tab:

Choose your most convenient method.

click ok.

This tranlated path will show in the Ops Manger as a:

Transform-Translate rectangular item.

That would work but I checked the "create new geometry and operation" button because I want to delete the original operation and just keep the translated operation.

Thanks Keith, Actually checking "coordinate" instead of the default "tool plane" seemed to fix the problem. Thanks

What's everyone's opinion of the translate operation? Personally, I like it and have yet to find any shortcomings (although I haven't tried the subprogramming stuff).

Anyway to set the "method" default in the translation settings from tool plane to coordinate?

I translate my toolpath's all the time. Everything I do is surface machining. I have not had any problems at all. I think "translate" is a great tool.
