Custom Tool Problems

I placed custom tool on FTP (MC9 folder) called BEAD-1.MC9. When I choose custom file from Define Tools dialog box, I don't get the same shape as the tool. I have tried "undefined", "End Mill" and several others as type.

 

What am I doing wrong here??

It could be in the way the tool is getting scaled to match the diameter value. Is the tool drawn with 1" being the outside dia?

 

One option you may try is to merge the tool geo into the mc9 you are working with on a "tool1" level and use the level option. This also keeps the tool geo with the part incase someone else works on it or you email it off.

I tried the level approach, but it did not work. Also, the tool is drawn to the 1" diameter--still does not work.

 

BUT, I finally removed the center line and the top line which enclosed the geometry fo one half of the tool. When I did that, it worked fine, including the level approach.

I am runing v9.1 sp2 . . . wish we had the maintenance package . . . still trying to convince management.

 

Maybe our dealer could drop by and give me a hand in "selling" them on the Maintenance package.

I have had this problem myself with enclosed tool geometry. I removed the C/L of the tool as code breaker did and voila!. Mcam's default tool library looks like this. Would have saved me any hour or so had I looked.
