Lathe groove 8.1.1

I am trying to do an internal groove. I am successful in machining it but, the problem is that the grooving tool rapids into the internal diameter and cannot retract to Z.1 first before going home. Using lathe- groove 2 points.

Any suggestions?

do you have a stock profile set in the job set-up page. also check the box that selects the home position clearance moves. i am going on memeory here as i haven't worked with V8 for quite some time.

I agree with Phil that when you have some stock defined you will get the clearances you want. Mastercam needs to see what material to avoid.

 

You can also get the clearances you want by using the box Phil refered to as well. This is the "Ref. Points" box on the tool parameters page. Activate it, click on the box and input the clearance settings you want and that is it.

I tried the retraction points in the reference points section and it worked. The only thing is is that you have to have defined before the toolpath is done. You can't apply it to existing toolpaths.

I believe you can add it to existing toolpath. You will need to regenerate the path after adding it in though. Give that a try and see if it works.

Chris is correct. I almost always forget to turn on my retract points. The first time I do a backplot I find the error. But, it only takes a minute to turn on the points and regen. It works every time.
