job set up and partial chain

I am using MC7 lathe to create a part that is

approx. 1.00 od.and 2.500 in. long.

There is a 3/4 20 thread on the end with an undercut behind the thread.

Being a novice user, I need some input as to

how I should approach setting up the stock )

(how to do this),what order I should chain, and how to do partial chains.(I want to

rough out the OD.without going into the thread undercut. The roughing tool is an 80 degree and would take out half of the thread blank if it followed the chain.

thanks.

Oooooohhhh, Version 7. That's a toughie. You don't have near the capability that Version 8 has. My first suggestion would be to pay contact your dealer the V8 Lathe Update. Very inexpensive.

Now for the task at hand in the mean time, Partial chains are a matter of selecting "Chain" then selecting "Partial". Pick the first entity and the last entity.

Mastercam will find the rest. If you don't have it right, you'll have to reselect everything because Versino 7 Lathe is NOT associative.

My advice, get into a training class at a local Community College/Trade School/, or through your local Mastercam Reseller and learn, learn, learn.
