Mill Chamfer

Hi guys,

I need help on cutting the chamfer. It seem to me that I have a hard time to cut the chamfer right. I use chamfer mill with adjustable 1 insert. The material is .300 brass thick. chamfer is 22 degree, .100 width, and .250 deep.

 

Can anyone point out how to use the mastercam and set up on the machine to cut this chamfer. Thanks in advance.

Are you using Contour? Select the drop down list on CONTOUR TYPE where it says 2D, and select CHAMFER.

Also click the "Chamfer" Button to set where on the tool the chamfer will cut and the width of the chamfer.

 

Be sure to define the tool as a chamfer tool and include the size of the tip flat.

I used contour and 2D chamfer, chamfer. What do you mean the size of the tip flat?

I seem to got it on the mastercam but when posted it out and ran on the machine. it's plunging in and it give me flat, no chamfer.

Datty,

Cammando is talking about the nose diameter of the tool. Some chamfer tools come to a sharp point others have nose diameters, you need to make sure you define the nose dia. or it will not cut properly. If your tool comes to a sharp point, then tell it the nose dia. is .0001

You have a tool with the 22 degree angle on it correct ?

 

Make sure you define all of the tool parameters for the chamfer mill.

 

Check your compensation direction.

 

Check your Z depths (and abs / inc).

I have an adjustable chamfer tool from 10-80 degree. I used 2d chamfer like you guys mentioned.

no radius on the insert. When I verify on mastercam it show me that the tool cut the angle but when I posted it out and ran. it gave me flat no angle.

 

on this chamfer tool I "zero" on the center of the part, is this right? or I have touch the edge?

I am sure if I do the machine setup right.
