Lathe, setdir question

I use chook setdir to set my path when I am doing a job.

In Lathe I open an MC8 file in directory A. Then I use setdir to A. This works fine for file save, file get, communications, etc. But, after I post the NC file the path is changed to Directory B for file get, save, communications.

In Mill, setdir path is not changed when I Post an NC file. (much preferred)

Is Lathe supposed to do this? Or did I miss a switch?

Thanks,

Andy

This is Greg in Tech Support@mastercam

I cannot dupilicate this problem?

Is it posible that this is related to the post you are ysing in lathe?

Try changing to mplfan and see what happens

If the problem persists I suggest sending an email to [email protected].

Be sure to explain problem and include all files needed to duplicate problem

I used a 450 running 2000 to check v8.11 lathe

In your post, down at the bottom there are numbered questions. Look for a question that resembles,

quote:

404. Read DATA PATHS section? y

. Set the "y" to "n" and try that. What this does is not allow the post to read the data paths section of the post, which may be what it redirecting your path currently.

Hope that helps,

Ok,

I tried a few things and this is what I found.

In Lathe8.11:

1. Start up lathe

2. File/Get/ and take note of the default directory (Call it A) , then go to another directory ,say B, and open a file.

3. Now do File/Get or Save/ and notice the directory (It is back to A!)

In MILL8 doing the same steps 1-3 it stays in B!

Why are MILL and LATHE different in this regard?

As far as setdir goes: LATHE and MILL operated differently.

In Mill when I SETDIR to B the mc8, nci, nc, communication paths are all B furthermore they all stay that way throughout the session regardless of the fact that the default directory was A when Mill is first opened. (this is good!)

In Lathe, however, when I SETDIR to B when it was default A, funny things happen. When I try post an NC file the nci directory will divert to A. So I "operations/options/change nci path/ to B" ,and finish posting (the NC directory is ok "B"). I then go to the main menu and invoke file get or save and it is in the A directory!!!! this WILL drive one up the Wall.

The only solution I could find for this was to go to config and set and save these paths permanently.

Then all the paths worked properly. However what good is SETDIR in Lathe if you really can't use it?

James, I did change y to n no help.

Greg, I tried mplfan, same problem.

Jay, I tried what you said and lost 3 customers. smile.gif
