Engraving/machining a scanned image

I've only been using Mastercam for less than

a year and am very new at it. I remember at the class I took the instructor showed us how you could take a picture or logo and transfer it to Mastercam to be machined. It was really of no use to me then, but now we want to machine the company logo among other things onto parts. Can anyone give me a step-by-step on this one? I'm running version 9.

Fisrt off, do you have the engrave package with the Raster 2 vector converter? You indicate you're running Version 9. Mill, Router?

Nope, I have just standard Mill 9 and looking for a way to basically import an image into Mastercam.

use wintopo or vextractor software, something that can convert your artwork into a dxf file. Then you can import it in as a dxf in mastercam.

Corel Photopaint works well also.

Do a search for 'Raster to Vector', also 'BMP images' and 'JPG images', and 'Logo'

I went through the same ordeal (raster to vector for my company's logo) and in the end I ended up sticking the bitmap into a cad program and tracing it. It only took 1/2 an hour and I had a flawless iges file. From there 1/2 hour with engraving in MCam and voila. I think that the raster to vector is designed for very simple line art. If your logo is any bit complex, ie. shaded, highlighted, or shadows, you may have a hell of a time with the raster to vector converter in Mastercam.

You can actually set Raster to Vector to do manual tracing yourself. It might be an add-on option to Mastercam though, I can't remember. Thats what happens when you work for a dealer and are using a dealer key. Everything is enabled so I always forget what is an add-on.
