DNS communication

Framing errors are associated with data transfer operations.

Bit 3 is responsible for framing error existance. This error occurs if the last bit is not a stop bit. This generally happens because of synchronization error. You may face this error when connecting two computers with the help of null modem, if the baud rates of the transmitting computer differs from the baud rates of the receiving computer.

Be aware that a lot of line noise can occassionally show up as data errors, using a better cable is one option.

I see this is an old thread, but it's something I've just learned about. The above are details about DNS communications. Would anyone be so kind as to provide general info about DNS. I've just recently started using files that are larger than my memory space. It's rather expensive to upgrade memory and thought it would be chaeper to get a dedicated PC to trickle feed the mill.

Any recommendations? Advice?

Thanks, sorry if this is a stupid noob question.

Don't be sorry, and it's not stupid.

How many machines do you have that you communicate with?

Communication software isn't that expensive.

Do you have Cimco? It comes standard with V9 but not with X.

Even if you need to buy the full version of Cimco it's not that expensive.

Cimco homepage

If you have just one machine, I suggest the cimco edit 5.

if you have more than one get the DNC-Max you wont regret it.

Wow, thanks for the fast response, Jeff.

Just 1, Fadal 3016L (2002 model)

Yes, ver 4.32.09, MasterCam ver 9.1 SP2, and I use Cimco to edit/check my programs.

Why do you prefer ver 5?

So, do you think it would be more worthwhile to get a dedicated PC rather than upgrading the memory?

What else do I need to consider?

That was if you didn't have Cimco.

Even if you upgrade your machine memory, you are still limited on program size.

The last time I checked, memory is very expensive for the amount that you get.

And a cheap pc is $500 or so.

Why can't you use the computer that you progam with mastercam?

Sorry, I haven't taken the time to figure out how to quote.

Yep, surely I will eventually need more memory again.

My local service place says approx $2000 for 8Mb.

Doesn't DNS tie up the machine while transferring data?

Well yes, you'd be running the program while you drip feed (DNC) the program.

If you do a search, James has explained a way to modify a Fanuc to use flash memory.

You might want to look into that.
