Post question for tapping

Hi all, any help is appreciated. Not to familiar with post modifications and have the following question. I find the following line on ptap in our post

 

feed = (1 / n_tap_thds) * speed

 

I have an M2 x 0.4 tap programmed for 1000 RPM. If my math is correct that should be a feedrate of 400mm. It post's with a feedrate of 2500 instead of 400. Fadal post Version 8.1

Not sure if this is the best way, but since you're using a metric tap in (I assume) an inch file, you'll have to convert the metric pitch to threads per inch. Enter that value in the TPI field (either in the tool definition or wherever it asks for it) and see what you get. If you're using a metric config, then forget what I just said.

 

In case you didn't know, inch thread sizes are given as thread per inch and metric thread sizes are given as the pitch. You're formula in the post is calculating the pitch (1/TPI).

I get 15.748 for a feed.

 

.4/25.4 = .015748 X 1000 = 15.748

 

Unless I've had too many beers already.

Yup, if you are working in inches, Thad's math is correct.
