Print quality is not good

I'm trying to produce some dimensioned prints the shop can use, using a Ricoh laser copier/printer on a network. My text comes out so poorly that 1/4" characters are blurry and hardly usable, using stick font. However, I can print from Autocad so finely I need a magnifying glass to read it. I wonder if this is a Mcam problem, or if my printer is at fault. Can everyone else print good text?

I spent the morning trying to figure out what the problem may be. I discovered that if Shading is active, the print quality is dismally poor, but without shading the print quality is fine. However, shaded prints are what I really wanted, as they have a 3D look to them the shop can readily understand. Same in V9 and X, haven't tried patch 3 yet.
