Create geometry from TXT or NC

Hello all,

I need some help for one of our customers. Our customer has hundreds if not thousands of NC files that were created in Mastercam but does not have the MC files or NCI files. These files are for a router and the toolpaths start by plunging right into the part. These parts are being held in place by a vaccuum chuck and as you can imagine they move all over the place when they are machined. We would like to help them alter the toolpaths.

Is it possible to geomtry from at TXT or NC file in Mastercam?

Reverse posting "might" give you some useable geometry but it is not the most reliable method of getting info back out.

There have been several threads about this, most people have not been successful but there might be a couple of successful people here that might pipe in.

I would have to guess there's going to be a lot of reporogramming going on.

Not sure in X but it does have a function under tools to import an NCI file.

In V9 I would change the post to RPFAN and pick the NC file. That would give you your nci file. Backplot save geo.

Probably the same for X when imorting the nci although you may be able to alter the toolpath with edit.

Metacut Utilities from Northwood does backplot of NC code as well as several other softwares that do this as well. You could use that type of software to view the toolpaths and edit the code to prevent the tool plunges. Very time consuming but at least you don't have to start from scratch. Reverse Posting is not very much fun to play with but could be done also. That would then require you to toolpath, post, paste and edit. Backplotting and then a couple edits would be faster it seems than all that. Either way alot of work being done again. Good Luck HTH

Don't laugh, if you read Modern Machine Shop there was an article several months ago about software that can have the cutting information embedded in the actual model of the part.

It is extremely high end stuff but it is out there and available.

They are actually talking it about doing away with or severely limiting the interaction required by a programmer.
