Though you could go back and forth, I think. Never tried it but I suppose you could.

 

You can pick it back up but it is a PITA and only done when you don't have another option.

 

Have you ever had to repickup a thread on a CNC, same method.

I've picked up thread leads on a cnc many times.

It's a major pain in the butt, but it can be done.

What I do is re-run the thd cycle JUST ABOVE the part and look very closely at the tool to see how far left or right you are of being the same lead....stop...make an offset on Z, lather,rinse repeat.

As you get closer to the same lead, you can offset X down INTO the thread to get even more accurate.
