Just that knurls have a TPI(Thread per inch) make sure if you are cutting along in the Z that your feedrate matches the TPI of your knurl, just like if you were threading.

i can see that on a diamond knurl but not on a straight one.

If you want the lines to line up, that's what you need to do.

since a knurl tool rolls. i don't understand how it will line up again on multi passes

Though you could go back and forth, I think. Never tried it but I suppose you could.

 

You can pick it back up but it is a PITA and only done when you don't have another option.

 

Have you ever had to repickup a thread on a CNC, same method.

I always ran the carriage back and forth on an engine lathe when I did a strait knurl, or set the compound up paralell...depended on how deep I need to hobb the knurl pattern in...

I've picked up thread leads on a cnc many times.

It's a major pain in the butt, but it can be done.

What I do is re-run the thd cycle JUST ABOVE the part and look very closely at the tool to see how far left or right you are of being the same lead....stop...make an offset on Z, lather,rinse repeat.

As you get closer to the same lead, you can offset X down INTO the thread to get even more accurate.

If you are traversing the knurl use the beveled face type.

 

Also if you are doing stainless I suggest polished cobalt knurls.
