I am running an 3/8" 3 flute ticn coated cleveland endmiil. I am maching alum. my question is they recommend 400-2500 sfm. Thats pretty wide open. My set up is very rigid and im cutting .550 dp. I am circle interpolating a blind hole. I have 15 hp mill so its got some power. Were would someone suggest starting at on the sfm. and when it comes to plunge milling into the pocket what is a good feed rate? Im assuming it cant be the same as they recommend for side milling. And the last question is what would a max axil or z azis cut be for a 3/8" endmill? Thanks in advance. and sorry for such a long question.

First off there's a ton of info if you do a search.

MAX out your spindle rpm,

multiply .005 (chip per tooth) x 3 (# of teeth)

take that # and muliply by the speed. That will give you your feedrate.

With that tool I'd try to start with 3 DOC's, might have to back out to 4, with a 65% - 80% radial stepover.

AND run with plenty of juice
