Tool Material - User Def 1

In mill, when defining a tool on the parameters tab, it has a dropdown for material.

Included here are two custom options, User Def 1 & User Def 2.

Does anyone know where I could edit the text that is displayed here, and the properties that go along with it?

You do it in the material library. I dont know if you can change the text though. When the material manager list comes up, double click on any material to edit it. Or right click and create a new material.

what does the material library have to do with the "material defintion on a tool"?

 

I'm talking about where you define whether your tool is HSS, Carbide, Ti Coated, Ceramic, etc....

There are 2 called user def 1 & 2...

They are there so when you click the calculate feeds and speeds. It knows what material and cutter you are using to be able to calculate.

 

If my material has a base of 100sfm. I define a hss cutter at 100%sfm, carbide at 300%sfm, and so on. Thus meaning it will use 100 sfm to calc feends and speeds for hss and 300sfm for carbide. I use user defined 1 for indexable cutters.

Ohhhhh....I misunderstood your first post.

 

But as far as you know there is no way to edit the text? I would like to change one of the user def to "CVD Diamond".
