stl convert to cat4/5

I have an stl file that when I try to convert

to a cat5 or cat4 it scales down automatically.

It's just a spindle head for vericut. why would

it scale? I didn't request it too.

Do you mean that you're using File/Open to bring the file into X (remember - it's all just lines) and then saving those lines to a Catia file using File/SaveAs?

CATIA V5 will read an STL in directly. No need for conversion...

The fellow that was bringing in the stl had asked me to do it. I don't know squat about catia so I tried. I think he was thinking I

could generate surfaces off the stl.

 

Pete- Yes.

 

Cam- I don't know. I didn't get to into it. he

just came back and informed me that a 27" line

checked about 7/8", so maybe. He's is currently

rebuilding surfaces in catia off the stl, instead of them magically appearing.

You might be able to bring the STL into Vericut as a Stock, create a dummy toolpath...run it, then export the cut stock model as an IGES out of Vericut. Assuming it isn't too complicated.

I tried it here and it is scaling the data down by 25.4 when writing the Catia file. If you're willing to test something for me, I think I have a fix...

For any of you outputting to Catia V4 or V5 from Mastercam, the fix Lou's referring to is in the forum's FTP site "Unspecified_downloads" folder.

There's a CatiaInterOp.Exe file that can be dropped into your X MR2 CommonCatiaData sub-folder (back up the existing one first!!) which should clear up some issues with parts being scaled by our good friend, 25.4.
