merging and drawing

MCX MR1

When I merge a dxf file into my workspace, I lose the ability to dimension, draw new entities, etc.

As soon as I accept the new file, the geometry turns red and I can not create dimensions. I cannot create new geometry. If I try to create a line, I get the first point and as soon as I click the second point, everything just disappears.

I can delete the new entities, even drill on points so I know it recognizes them. Why can't I do anything else?

I just tested my system and did not get the results you get. I merged a DXF file into an existing design. The geometry did not turn red and I was able to apply dimensions to the geometry. I don't know why you get different results. Maybe someone else can be more helpful.

The 'red'-ness might be due to a default setting in X that was changed in later Maintenance Releases.

Since File/Merge automatically puts the merged geometry into a group, you need to be aware that there's a setting in Config/Colors that controls how grouped entities are displayed. They can be shown in either their own color or in the group's color (and every groups default color is red).

Simply change this setting and you should be back to seeing things in their own colors.

i had the same issue when importing and merging files in auto cad the way to fix it is to merge

the file that you want click on GROUPS button

lower right corner of screen select NEW and call the file a name, it will then want you to select

what is in the group ie window etc, after you have selected the group the dialog box will open GROUPS MANAGER click on colours click on use entity colours. This should then be fixed for the

future merges and imports. hope this helps
