My first 5 axis part to program, need advice

There are a few toolpaths you could use on this part. I would recommend making surfaces from the grooves and untrim them to be a complete surface that is smooth and without the side grooves breaking into them. I would problem use Mulitsurf 5ax, Flowline 5ax, or might look at some of the advanced 5 axis toolpaths to accomplish this part. Are you using the post from In-House? If you want to send me the file I can show you a couple exaples of what I am talking about.

this part could be made extremely simple by just rotating the toolplane and then use use like a scallop or contour surface toolpath, unless there is something I am not seeing. you would have to rotate T/P for each slot though. THis is my last resort when I am having troble with other 5-axis toolpaths

wow! thanks Ron, Bruce for the offers for help, smile.gif

right now I'm going to follow what Ron and Jack said, before this had the surface of grooves extended but didn't know where to continue from there. Need to figure out how to create the curve at the center.

I'm going through the Mill 4/5 axis tutorial and want give another shot at this.

Might put it at the ftp if I still can't figure it out, so thanks for the offers.
