Hi, I am new to 5-axis. I uploaded a MSURF5-AXIS-HELP.MCX to cadcam's ftp (thanks) is this a complicated surface to cut or am I doing something wrong. Also is there another toolpath to use as this one takes a long time to generate. I tried the regular multisurf but could not get it to cut the inside.

Thanks, Mark

Mark,

I've uploaded a file to the FTP named

MSURF5-AXIS-GCODE.MCX ( in the X2 folder)

That is a tough part to learn 5X on.

I'm just learning the advcanced 5X toolpaths myself.

I put a toolpath on one wall using

the "morph between 2 curves" toolpath

with the Z axis at a fixed angle.

There are dozens of ways to cut that part.

I think I'd do most of it with convetional

surfacing toolpaths using toolplanes to

tilt the Z away from the part walls

Where I work that part would be considered a waste of 5X machine time. As small as it is it could all be done with 3X toolpaths. But if you plan on the 5X aproach I'd do it with fixed angle toolpaths. Each wall seperate then a 3X 1/2" ball down the middle Parralel, to get the bottom.

I put a sample of the process that I would use for this part. Note that my boundries would be more refined to limit overlap, and tool selection would vary, but this is how I would go about this part.

Also note the created planes in the plane manager.

Sorry forgot to leve file name :

MSURF5-AXIS-HELP-CUDA84.MCX
