Trouble Swarf Cutting a parrallel Face

Hi All,

 

I have uploaded a file to the FTP in MCX2_Files called C axis Swarf cut.mcx

 

I am having some trouble with what should be a simple task using a 5 axis vertical Mill

 

I want to Swarf/Contour cut the Red face of the jig by rotating the C axis of the machine. when the A axis is fixed at A0

 

Any help appreciated

Yes backplot looks fine.

 

the G code posts with X and Y axis moves if we tell the system the correct parameters, That is tool axis is vertical I want the G code to post with C axis moves. I am not sure this is a post issue.

I think it is more a lack of being able to tell mastercam that I want to lock the Y axis and machine the part

 

To get the result that I did with that file I had to cheat and tell Mastercam that the tool axis projects to a point something lile X0 Y0 Z-10000. so hence the file posts with an A angle.

 

I want to machine the red face with A axis at 0 the Y axis at 0 and the C axis rotating

There was a thread on this subject a while ago about doing the same thing on a Variaxis with Mazatrol. From memory you were involved in some of the replies. I couldn't find the thread and can't remember if there was an MC equivalent or not. Does this ring a bell with you?!?

It does ring a bell, but from a great distance.

 

I know that in UG there is a lock axis function that is essentially what I need here

I looked at your curve 5ax toolpath.

why are you setting side tilt angle = 0.001?

That was something that I was playing with to try and Get the C axis output. The 0.001 value seemed to make no difference I must have left it there by mistake.

 

If we set the tool axis to Z axis or vertical when posting the generic 5 axis post tells us we have a vertical tool axis then outputs X and Y moves.

 

Perhaps I am missing something here as there should be some way to lock the X or Y axis and therefore force the post to output C axis moves.

If you use curve 5axis, it may be better to use Tool axis control = plane.

 

And I aslo tried swarf 5axis toolpath with teh red surface, it looks fine.

I was wondering why when you do a fit screen the fixture just looks like a dot, there are two points way out in space.

Yes I tried tool aixs = plane, the backplot looks great but my post outputs X and Y moves.

 

Perhaps I am looking in the wrong area I may have a post issue?

 

What does you Mu400 post output? X and Y axis or C axis moves

when I use swarf, it is XY move.

when 2d contour, it is XC move and Y0.

Yes that is the output that I am expecting to see with 2D contour.

 

It seems that I infact have a post problem. My post started life as Generic 5 axis post from X1 CD.

 

Any ideas on where to start looking?

Yes, it's a post issue.

 

I'm not a post programmar though,

all our 5 axis posts are based on our original.

 

 

I haven't look at generic 5ax fanuc post yet,

but a part of axis angle calclation may be binaried..

MPFAN.PST seems good.

rot_on_x : 3 #Default Rotary Axis Orientation,

 

it just does rotary outputs.
