stl set-up for verify question

When I save an stl from verify, and then proceed to use it for a stock model in another operation/set-up, do I need to actually rotate the stl model, or just use a new wcs?

i use x form STL to put my .stl files where i want to then save as a new .stl file to use as stock

I do the same. Never tried to use a new WCS

Use the WCS instead of moving around the stl it will save you many many headaches

OK, I set up new wcs and tried to save, didn't work. Said no surfaces existed (of course not it's an stl) The filename appeared, but was empty. So, what am I doing wrong?

Do the next operation in the same file, then in the toolpath manager group set your stl there

1) ran 1st op in verify, saved stl

 

2) opened stl in mcam and rotated with new wcs, tried to save with errors

 

3) ran 2nd op in verify using modified stl and nothing shows up for stock, progress counter goes up, but no tool or stock can be seen.

 

I am being a little slow today and can't figure out what I am missing.

OK, I think I figured it out. When I select the stl I do not have to have it rotated, in the stl file. Mcam will rotate to the wcs in use. Does this sound right?

use your wcs's so much nicer and keeps files cleaner

Your last statement was correct. The WCS will re-position the STL for you. You need to create the WCS plane first by using existing geometry, or using WCS - Rotate. Then in the Stock setup tab of the MGP dialog box, you would assign the stock your WCS plane.
