1. change the face that you want to extrude into surface

2. select solid extrude & select chaining options, check the "allow surface edges in single mode" box

3. use single mode chaining option & select the edges of the surfaces to be extruded.

the edges of the surfaces will behave as a chain for your extrusion

You know what? I think I'm thinking way back to when I was using AutoCAD, or maybe Cadkey. With AutoCAD it was more of a "Move Face" option. I coulda sworn that Mastercam had an option to extrude from a face without having to create extra geometry.

this what you mean ?

Draft solid faces for extrude operations

The Draft Extrude method requires you to select lateral faces (walls) swept out from an extrude operation. The drafted faces hinge at the intersection of the original faces (the faces selected to be drafted) with the planar chains of curves that defined the original extrude operation. The draft direction follows the extrusion direction, and the draft angle is measured with respect to this direction.

For Draft Face operations defined using an existing Extrude operation (Draft Extrude option on the Draft Face Parameters dialog box), you can edit the drafted faces.
