Spindle Gage Line Question

Does a Big Plus Spindle gage line differ from a standard CAT50?

If so does that mean that a calibrated gage bar for a standard 50 taper spindle will have 2 different tool length offsets between machines with a Big Plus and standard spindles?

I would think the gauge line would be diffrent big plus is a double face contact I would think you could check this with an indicator, measure your tool, put it in the spindle, MDI to a specific z height off the table with length comp active and measure it from the table and see if it is correct and if not you will see the diffrence and can adjust for that.

Thanks for the input guys.

We tried to use the same tool in the machine with the Big Plus spindle and the length was about .017" different.

We checked appropriate parameters. We checked the laser alignment as well as the pivot point calibration programs. All came out really good.

I was told by the service rep for the machine manufacturer that they are different.

I just wanted to hear what others had to say.

The Spindle does not dictate if it is BT or CT, the Tool Changer Claw and the Tool Magazine (if Rack Style)do. biggrin.gif

BTW, gage line is not necessarrily the face of the spindle. It's just a convenient location to get a positive tool length from.
