Achieving cycle times-Models Vs 2d Drawings

Im at my wits end.

We have Mcam V9 level 3.

The type of product we specialize in are components for the microwave telecomunication industry.Mostly aluminium. Batchs of 100 to 10,000.

Enough said.

Its all about cycle time and 2 axis programing wins every time .

But the customer and technology demands that the model must be used.

Is this a no win situation or can surface , model machining of " 2d" components better the cycle time compared to 2d programming. confused.gif

Cheers

Greg, It really depends on your geometry. would be helpful if you could put a sample of a part on the ftp site. Does the geometry have wireframe? If not, are you allowed to create the wireframe from the model? Are the walls vertical or is there a draft angle? Suface cutting routines are faster at the programming end, but slower on the machine. 2D programs require a lot more time to create, but you can be much more efficient on cycle times. Of course, if you have revisions to part models, then surface routines are easier to regenerate. Just some thoughts to chew on.

Cheers.
