Windows XP

Hello,

Recently i just switched over to Win XP and since then i have been having problems with mastercam operating verrrry slow whenever i do a file/get or a file/save.

i have played around with the ram allocations setting them high and then low.

i now have them around 57.8mb having them currently at 8000,8000,500,16000,32000.

has anyone experienced this problem and can anyone give me any help as to what is causing this.

i always run the ram-saver function so i don't think it's a file size problem.

it does this on any size file toolpath or no toolpath.

is it because the directory that i am saving/getting the file from has alot of files in it???

my pc specs are:

256ram

32mb video gforce2

1.5 processor

Did your system get upgraded to XP from a previous version of Windows? Or was XP installed "clean"? I many cases, this makes a huge difference. A clean install is usually never convenient, but it's always the best way to go.

Try going to the shortcut, right click, Compatibility, and switching to NT 4.0 Mode.

 

Let us know if that does it.

i upgraded from win 98 to xp.

in win98 i was having massive crash problems ever since i purchased mastercam a couple years ago.

my dealer said that winxp would be alot more stable.

and that's true...no more shut-down, but now just seems like very slow ram access.

So it wasn't a clean install. Are you still using FAT16 or FAT32 as the file system for your hard drive(s) or did you allow the upgrade process to convert them to the NTFS file system?

sorry for the mis-info,

i did a total re-format of my hard drive and it was a clean install.

So it was a clean install. Do you find RAM access is slow in general, or just with Mastercam. Which version of Mastercam are we talking about, BTW?

 

Give Charles' suggestion a try. An example of what the dialog and settings look like using Design 8.1.1 EXE is below:

i am using V9 level 2 with solids.

ram access in general is pretty good.

but with MCam it's pretty poor.

i'll try the NT 4.0 thing.

I have had that problem in win xp also, but I was able to stop it. You have to revert to the normal window style dialog box. It will speed everything up for you. You do this in the CNCREG Icon located in the MCAM9 Start menu.
