Can I roll 2d geometry around a cone?

I know how to roll and unroll flat geometry around a cylinder. Is there any way to roll a 2d shape all the way around a cone?

 

We are using 9 and X2

Try using Xform >> Project and project the 2D geometry onto the cone surface

I thought that would only wrap around 180 degrees of it and I also thought that would just project it and not roll it changing it's shape as it should?

I could be wrong but it doesn't look like it. But you can roll it and then project it. You must only select the face of the solid. Otherwise it will go thru to other side also.

Roll it around a cylinder?

Since the distance around the large end of tne cone is greater than around the small end - the geometry must be adjusted to compensate for this

also the geometry to be rolled must be at an angle to the centerline of the cone to compensate for rolling at a different the different diameters

Roll around the large dia of the cone, use that dia for rolling, Then project it on the cone. Use the normal option.

 

Did it and it works good.

 

PS in order to roll it completely around. You will have to figure out the circumference of the dia to roll around. Then make your geometry that long.
