Surface fin contour funnel

Im doing a funnel shape with surface fin contour with a ball end mill. The problem im having is that it keeps making tons of z retract moves. I would like it to just spiral down from top to bottom without lifting up a million times.

 

Any suggestions?

I came across the same thing a few weeks ago and I ended up using "Scallop" toolpath and it done it without retracting.

Is your Gap setting high enough?

MLS .....Thanks......I changed the gap setting to 5 inches and it worked good. Dont think i needed to go that high but it worked anyway.

I got a question. I run 9.1 level 1 at work. At home I got "the other version of 9.1...." (don't fuss at me or get mad or go into the legal issues please. I am trying to learn all I can about what I can do with level 1 and ways to become a better programmer) well I am playing around with surface programming (trying to justify an upgrade at work.) I have done some sample posts and it looks to me like either the post or mastercam is changing arcs into liner moves. Has that happened to you? how can it be fixed? Just curious cause if I can justify an upgrade, then the post would have to be more streamline than what I am getting, due to memory in the machines. for instance, on a 3-d fillet, to angle, to fillet to flat to fillet the post had 90 lines of code (all liner) where it seems like an arc move, liner move, arc move, liner move then and arc move would take care of it? Any thoughts?

^^mastercam9user do you have the arc filter turned on? That should help alot and speed up the machining and regenerating times too. I dont think it has anything to do with the post in your case but I could be wrong.
