5-axis Swarf q

I have to use a tapered end mill in a Swarf 5AX toolpath. Will Mastercam compensate for the end mill's taper? If not, can someone recommend a different approach?

Yes, Mastercam will recognize just about any type of cutting tool, but you MUST define the tool before you use it!

 

-When the tool paramaters dialogue box appears, right click in the tool list area and select 'create new tool'

 

-Go the 'tool type' tab and select 'taper mill'

(If taper mill doesn't appear on the tool type menu, go to the left tab and select 'custom menu', then select taper mill from that menu. Go back to the tool type menu and taper mill should now be there.)

 

-Once you get the taper mill configuration page open, you can then define the tool's dimensions then save it to your tool library. Now any time after that you want to use that same taper mill it will be there. Mastercam will adjust the toolpath accordingly to compensate for the taper you defined in the tool parameters, so I always double check to be sure I'm giving Mastercam the correct tool dimensions.
