Lay pattern in copper

Clarification?

We are attempting to build a lay pattern on 99.9% pure copper. the pattern width is 1/4,

the rectangle is 4.0 x 42.5. I wanted to know if anyone has done this on a mill, and if so what did you use.

What is a "lay pattern"? Maybe this is a job for Mastercam Art. Will the copper be wrapped on a cylinder?

A lay pattern is an o-ring sealing surface with a directional grain. Usually the surface finish is 16 or better.

[Fretless]

A lay pattern is used for sealing 2 parts creating and air,gas or liquid tight fit usually requiring a 16 or better finish. With the lines going along the path as opposed to across.

We usually make a plastic template with the slot width cut into it to match the lay pattern. If it's a racetrack type pattern we will make 2 of them for each half of a lay pattern so they overlap each other. We use plastic pins to locate the template along the part profile and clamp it onto the part with Kant Twists. Then the deburr personnel will sand the lay pattern onto the surface of the part using custom made plastic sand paper holders.
