Locking Machine Def's on Network

Is there a way to lock or password protect Machine def's?

I have a kid out in the shop that keeps jacking up one of the machine def's and swears on his life that he is not doing anything to it. We have 3 guys out in the shop that use the same computer and he is the only one that ever has trouble!!!!

I'm not real savvy at machines def's or posts anyway and it is a real pain in the arse when I have to repair it EVERY TIME he uses it.

there is an icon in the machine def in the top to set password protect. i use mine.its the little yellow lock

I'll give it a look. I just set up a 2 hour cycle time part, so I will have a little time to try to learn more about it.

Use file system permissions to set the files read only.

 

Windows Explorer (or My Computer)-> Right Click on the files -> Security tab.

 

If your users are logged on to your computers with administrator privileges you will need to correct that first by moving them the Users group then changing the file permissions accordingly.

They have their own login and have limited access. That might be the thing to do.

Appears that your network is well set up and administered. In that case, using file permissions IS the thing to do.
